I thought the sensor was already confirmed. Thanks for clearing that up Norm.

I don't know why I'd not thought of this: For nature shoots use my *200 as I usually would, it's an amazingly capable lens and almost never disappoints. Very often renders a 3D look. But on camera #2 instead of a D FA100 mount the 55-300 PLM instead.
I've used the 200 for closeups, pseudo macro as it were, more than once and the fast 55-300 would make capturing those birds in flight a whole lot easier. Out of around 20 shots of two terns fishing at a preserve recently I got maybe 3 dead-focused with a D FA100 and only a half dozen even usable. No idea why I've rarely used the 55-300 which TBH gathers a lot of dust, and was actually purchased so my son could hike with me and not worry about lens changes. I do have a fondness for primes, perhaps a downfall when I make lens choices.
For whatever reason I've thought of the 55-300 as a general use walk-around, more a beginner or one-size-fits-all lens. I had the original 55-300 as well but it too was rarely used with a preference for the *200 and *300. But then I've paid attention lately to some of the images our members are posting from that lens and many of them aren't beginner images. Sharp, clean, great focus.... I'll give it a serious workout on my next preserve visit. Thanks for the mention.

Slower than I would have liked. Whether slow or not is subjective. Wouldn't matter for landscape or architecture. Wouldn't matter for portraits. Barely matters even for walkaround. Sports, kids playing, dog fetching a ball? Yeah that matters.

Simply converting the 50-135 from SDM to the old-style screw drive made my lens' auto-focus noticeably faster.

RonHendricks, I think you'll have one less (faux) worry about the next Pentax camera. Reportedly the number of focus points won't be an impediment.
