A lovely matched pair of cutters, mate.

I've been thinking (which is always dangerous for me!!) that you must have a couple of Surgeon buddies at the various hospitals you work at, and that the gift of a personalized hand-made, non-surgical use Damascus scalpel from you would be a cherished 'straight to the poolroom' present.......just sayin'...:p

The difference between threads in Site suggestions and Help to those in other forums is that they aren't generally posted for discussion, but rather to ask Adam a specific Question (as in this case), make a Suggestion to Adam about improving a forum feature, or pointing out an Error to Adam somewhere on his forums. The vast majority of threads in that forum have less than 5 replies and a few hundred views. OP's will post a query, Adam will usually reply, and the OP will acknowledge Adam's reply with maybe a couple of other members chiming in. Without meaning to sound rude, the topics are essentially posted for Adam's benefit or consideration, and only his opinions are sought by OP's as he will make changes if he thinks the topic has merit.

Methinks a disservice was imposed on the OP of this thread as his initial question was hijacked to the point where it became completely off topic and moved.

You mention above UncleVanya that you didn't think it was a serious question and that the OP started it knowing it would devolve into what it became. Could I respectfully say that it doesn't really matter what anyone else but Adam thinks about a topic in the Site Suggestions and Help forum, as all topics are directed at him alone for consideration. It doesn't matter if a hundred members agree or disagree with the premise of a Question or Suggestion as it only matters if the 'boss' agrees or disagrees. .

I hope the poor treatment the OP of this thread received (or other members considering posting a Site Suggestions and Help thread) doesn't dissuade them from posting threads in the future.

That sounds like confirmation of a genuine Site Suggestion and Help question to me.

Probably won't be moved back to that forum, but I alerted Adam to this thread in my post above, so at least he knows about the issue.

The topic question about a feature in member's profiles which may need to change, is perfectly legitimate to ask in 'Site Suggestions and Help' forum as it's about a PF site feature, whereas, the thread move to General Talk is quite baffling to me. General Talk is for non-photography related topics only, so questions about a PF site feature aren't meant to be in this forum. @Adam hasn't addressed the question about any changes to profiles that may need to happen as per the OP's question, and most of the comments in this thread didn't relate to the topic, and were personal remarks about Twitter..........

Granted, a thread about Twitter does belong in General Talk, but this only became a thread about Twitter because it was hijacked by off topic comments. :(

I was going to stay out of this completely but your dilemma has me concerned for you.

Below is a link to a photographer whose images weren't seen until after her death, as all her images were only taken for herself. She had nobody critiquing her work, so she wasn't influenced as to whether the images were good or bad, how they could be improved, or what subjects she should be photographing. So forget social media as it isn't the world you're immersed in. Look at other people's images that impress you without feeling a need to equal or do better. Enjoy your own experience and don't judge yourself with what other humans are doing, and never judge yourself on what the collective power of the internet (A.I.) can do.

Don't let machines make you feel inferior about being human. Keep taking photos!!!

Glad to be of help and I appreciate the thread move to allow every member to now nominate, but may I be a little cheeky in saying that your comment didn't address the substance of my post or the compromise suggested in lieu of the delay in the awarding the elevated title status? I'm not sure how the forums are benefitted by well deserved recognition being held over to a date long into the future when Rupert, the memorialized member, wouldn't himself want to wait. The agreement in this thread that Ian deserves the OMP title surprised me a little as most threads in this forum average only about 5 replies and a few hundred views this early in its life....but not this one!! ;)

It's entirely at Adam's discretion, but there seems to be some inconsistencies in its awarding. I'll try to explain why I feel the awarding is a bit lumpy.

Some back story first if I may.
I was alerted to THIS THREAD after starting my thread. As the official nomination thread is in the Pentaxian Lounge sub-forum, I was prevented from seeing it while viewing/checking the forums as a Visitor (not logged in), as that forum is for some members only, ie, Pentaxians, Site Supporters, and Loyal Site Supporters. New members and basic forum members are prohibited by the system from viewing content, as they don't see the forum listed in there feeds. Similar to only moderators and administrators seeing/accessing the Moderator forum. Anyway, @Sandy Hancock ; kindly nominated Ian by proxy by linking this thread in the official thread above. Okay, so that's a little back story and now for the confusing to me lumpy bits.

Member stevebrot was the first recipient on or around July in 2018, and photolady95 was given the award after her passing. Both very worthy members to get the title, but neither of the two got the award in December (as what seemed to be the criteria) which appears quite rigid for the usual awarding IMO. I say that because it seems strange to me that an award given in memory of Rupert (dare I say it, a scallywag of epic proportions and not one to usually adhere strictly to the rules himself ) have an award given in his name that is opposite to the spirit of his own membership here. I shared many friendly PM's with Rupert and found him to be one of the least rigid individuals I have ever encountered. I miss him. I'm confident that Rupert would be humbled by the award given in his name, but I'm also confident that he would question why worthy members had to wait for an arbitrary date to get the deserved recognition.

Just a thought for @Adam to consider.
Perhaps you could give the recognition via the title change at anytime during the year in hono(u)r of Rupert's own personality but officially announce the recipients in a thread on or around the December 19 date as that could be a very workable compromise. The one thing I knew for sure about Rupert is that he never waited to show generosity.......;)

May I respectfully suggest that those not using Norton might be getting a false negative and are risking their computer security by entering the thread.
If a spammer has hijacked one of the links to suit their own agenda, the Norton alert is a welcome notice and to ignore it so quickly might have consequences.

Norton is one of the best, if not the best, at preventing all manner of nasty stuff getting into computers. If there is a malicious link embedded in the above thread somewhere, perhaps for member safety sake, the thread needs hiding from member access until the bad content is found and removed. If none is found, then no harm done and it can restored to view. I have used Norton extensively and trust it. To the mods in this thread that easily accessed the thread with no alerts, could I caution you not to click on any links of suspected spammers as I don't believe your security features are enough to ensure protection. Just my $0.02.

Many thanks to the folks that have commented in agreement in this thread, as each post is a signal to the 'boss' how we feel about a fellow member's contributions.

May I cheekily ask members @17dew , @35mmfilmfan , @CristiC , @Des , and @redpit to consider adding a comment in addition to the very welcome likes you all gave me. While I'm very appreciative (and a little humbled) by the Likes I received in the 1st post, this thread ain't about me, and your posts will add voices to the choir in hoping to get Ian the recognition we other posters feel he deserves. 'Likes' are great.......comments are better.

Apologies for singling out the above members, but I started this thread to recognize Ian's contributions here and not as a vehicle to benefit myself. :o :o

Cheers. ;)

Hi Carl.
When a member goes above and beyond in regards to helpfulness for the benefit of the membership, they can be bestowed by administration with Otis Memorial Pentaxian status (which appears under their username) to signal to all that the member is recognized for their service to the forums. A very good example is wonderful member stevebrot who was freely helping members with his knowledge up until his very much too early passing. At a glance, members like Steve, and I also believe Ian, can be identified as outstanding members of the forums. Thanks for adding your vote to this thread, and I hope my explanation answers your question. ;)

Many thanks to those that have left an affirmative comment in this thread, as each voice adds to the possibility of 'clackers' being shown that his dedication to us all is highly valued. For those members that have read this thread and agreed with the suggestion but not posted yet, please reconsider and leave a comment for @Adam to see, as the decision to grant the elevated status is his.

Thanks folks. ;)

Edit - I've planted the seed, so my job here is done. Cheers.

For 78 straight weeks now (and hopefully many more to come ;)), member clackers has freely given his knowledge and many laughs for the benefit of the membership and the forums as a whole IMHO. In recognition of his outstanding ongoing contributions, I would like to nominate Ian for 'Otis Memorial Pentaxian' status as acknowledgement for his service. I hope this suggestion is accepted.

Hey Dennis, I've had an X-5 for many moons and found it to be quite good for what it is....and I've given a very basic review below.
As mentioned above, the optical zoom range is very handy (digital zoom not so good as the SR not enough) and the 1cm macro is surprisingly good IMO.
It has features and functions that can be changed to suit like ISO, white balance, etc.............and it has the much sought after flippy screen!!!
When the available light is good, the jpeg only images are very useable. If you only want a record of an event or trip without the IQ of a DSLR, I can recommend the X-5. ;)

Not all SDM lenses have the screwdrive focus option. The DA* 55 and the 17-70 are both internal motor focus only.
