This exactly - it's why the 18-250 was the primary lens for our recent family holiday, with the DA 50 reserved for when I knew we were going into low light. I took a just-bought (used) 28mm Takumar one one occasion and regretted it, because that was the day I REALLY needed the long zoom for just one unpredictable but very exciting thing. I still got a picture of it, but it wasn't as good as if I'd had the superzoom.
Clearly you need the 18-270... ;)
