Okay, so I thought it was about time I put down the MX and Spottie F and took a digital camera out to play for a bit.

Pea Flower.

Sports, action and wildlife all in one, and a fashion shoot thrown in for good measure! Just out of interest, how many missed-focus discards did you have?

No lens club for this one, it seems, so it came here looking for a home. RMC Tokina 17mm f/3.5 @ f/8 with AF540FGZ-II flash on the K-1; my widest-view full-frame-compatible lens, and I was just able to catch the little woofer as she came bounding through the door.

Very heavy crop in post; no other changes.

"Don't you know, I'm the 2000 man..."

Why yes; yes they are now. All of them.

I like the guitar - I imagine that was done as a salute to the country they were performing in, and will be changed over at the next concert?

A friend of mine was a big fan of theirs back in the seventies. Hard to believe it's been FORTY YEARS. They were never my thing as far as music went, but they were - and judging by the scale of the concert still are - great performers, and you've really done Stanley justice here.

There's a sharp discontinuity in the stream of water coming from the left, not long after it emerges from the nozzle. Otherwise a beautiful shot.

135/1.8 is a difficult lens to make well, so they're going to pump all their best pixie dust into something like that. With a pixie-dust 85 on the way, I don't think that one's a goer. On the other hand, 135/2.8 is a much easier ask, with decades of optical experience in crafting optical formulas for that. Even if they just put the FA optics in a new shell, they wouldn't be doing too badly (I suspect the M is actually the better lens, but I suspect if you're making an AF lens you need to design the optics to be moved by motors and that changes things).

I think we have a D-FA 70-300 coming, don't we? If it's everything the 28-105 is, it should complete most enthusiasts' K-1 equipment handily.

That and a cheap fast fifty, or perhaps leave the FA50 in production.

I just love using Takumars on this thing...

"Between Fire and Ice."

Pentax K-1 with Super Takumar 35mm f/3.5 wide open and AF540FGZ-II flash, bounced at reduced power.

SOOC at factory settings with no post-processing tricks. The long-ish exposure (1/4 second) has permitted the warmish-toned tungsten light over the snowman's left shoulder to bleed through, giving the "fire" appearance, while the evening light (partially reflected off snow) through the window over his right shoulder represents the "ice".

This lens blew me away on the K-5 and tempted me back to Single-in when I thought I was spent. So I thought it was about time it got a spin on the K-1.

Pentax K-1 with Super Takumar 55mm f/2.0, for the bokeh. Wide open.

Based on the in-focus area, I do not think older lenses have any trouble holding their own on this sort of camera. Also, the shake reduction works wonders. You need to really zoom in to see any sort of flaws.

Of the lenses in my possession, I do not hesitate to call this one the King of Bokeh. Yes, I have several 1.4's of varying vintages and even a 1.2, but somehow this one renders nicer backgrounds, not just more completely obliterated ones.

This next one is with the Super Tak 35/3.5

The sharpness of the lens in the plane of focus impresses me. I think at some point I'm going to have to Single with this one again. At this rate most of the fair-weather months will be spoken for pretty soon.

I could not resist joining in. Single-in-April shot for the day is done, so why not reach for another lens just because?

These were taken with the Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 50mm f/1.4 and lighting from an AF540FGZ-II, bounced, just to see for myself how it behaves on a full-frame DSLR.

Wide open:

Fully closed down (f/16):

I think we have a lot of promise here. I really, REALLY curse the fact that this camera doesn't have analogue TTL, as it would make shooting with Takumars and flash so much easier and not so much a question of trial and (mostly) error. We shall see what happens as spring rolls into summer and I can take lenses like this one outside.
