Full Frame a Mistake?

I take your point, but then again, I strongly suspect that Tony Northrup's primary audience is not professional photographers that operate this way, many of whom probably have forgotten more about photography than Tony will ever know.

The K-1 was made first of all for the die-hards, the true loyal Pentaxians; the ones who have time to think about their glass and then hunt it down. For everyone else there is the Pentax zoom trinity from 15 to 200 at 2.8 to get the ball rolling. The rest will follow as soon as they can turn it out at the appropriate level of excellence. Would you prefer that they rush it out the door and then have to recall it for some stupid reason?

IIRC TN uses a lot of Canon. Native-platform legacy glass is a door which is absolutely closed to him on that front, and maybe his mindset just isn't there.

It would have been nice to see a world in which Pentax went ahead with what we now call the MZ-D. But we saw what happenned to the company whose camera ran with that sensor, and Pentax was not at the time in the dominant, sweeping position it had once been, where it could afford a flagship-body failure, however gallant. Only by openly promoting it as a brave experiment with better things to come could they have gotten away with it if it had disappointed.

As things stand - better late than never.

Northrup's comments are IMO akin to the disingenuous behaviour of (for example) Democrats who say they'd be happy if Joe Bloggs was the Republican Candidate instead of Jane Smith, because said Democrats know that Jane Smith would eat their candidate alive in the general election whereas Bloggs would fall.

I think the motivation is that Northrup feels threatened by a camera which is as good as any of the other mainline flagships (excluding costly outliers like the D5), while being $1000 cheaper for essentially the same performance and then some. That plus he doesn't really understand Pentax and its place in the market.

In this case I think there is plenty to criticise about both the message and the messenger; it doesn't help that I happen to be one of those people who for some reason finds it difficult to watch any of Tony's videos all the way through. He smiles too much and it gives me a Pod Person vibe, or perhaps they are the photographic version of the Mysterious Two? TV Movies of the Week: Mysterious Two (1982) :p
