See my first paragraph - it's the 60-300 zoom.

I was looking at one yesterday, the rear face of the adapter for which describes it as the Adaptall for Pentax K/M mount (to paraphrase broadly). When I tried it out on the K-5, I could swear it was behaving like a stop-down (plain M42) mount. Is this normal? (It was the 60-300 described in the Tamron Adaptall zoom section).

Alas I did not have my MX with me; it was cold and wet out, and I didn't want to risk the camera, even in my jacket pocket.

I thought briefly about buying it, but demurred because of the size and weight. If anyone wants it, it's at the Kerrisdale Cameras store in Vancouver on West 41st Street and they are asking around $90CDN sticker price (pre tax).

They also had an S-M-C Takumar 200/4.0 (for about the same price) with what I felt were slightly sluggish aperture blades (those with Spotmatic ES/F cameras should think about a CLA before they use it on film) and an assortment of 70/80 to 200/210mm third party K mount lenses with either long lens flanges (won't mount on digital bodies), Ricoh pins (most seemed rounded, but I still didn't feel brave enough to try them on my K-5), or both - film aficionados and especially Ricoh film shooters with appropriately equipped bodies may be interested.

They also have some Takumar and M series normal primes in the f/1.8 to 2.0 range, but those are awaiting police background checks and won't be free to release to customers for a couple of weeks at least. I am leaving Vancouver at the end of this week and must miss out, but locals will not be so disadvantaged.

Oh, and they also had an LX body going for $230 pre tax. I wasn't completely sure that the exposure meter wasn't behaving erratically (though that might be unfamiliarity talking) and I know the LX has a limited life expectancy as a type (limited spare parts), so I didn't go there and I mention its presence with caution... but man, that thing has a sweet shutter, the loveliest viewfinder, and in size terms sits nicely between the K and M bodies. Was I tempted? Yes. Should you be? Yes, with the caveats mentioned above.

If only the LX had had full manual reversion in the event of metering failure, I might have put down the money. But of course the shutter-curtain control system had to be what it was in order to get that legendary ultra-long-exposure performance.

For the record, I walked away with a Tokina SZ-X 80-200 f/4.5-5.6 (with A contacts) to stand in for the Sigma 70-210 I stupidly dropped and wrecked a couple of months back, so I got what I wanted out of the trip at a very good price and I don't care who walks away with what else.
