Alaska Part III (Arctic Circle to Valdez)

After we left Denali we headed up to Fairbanks where we stayed for a few days over the 4th of July. We planned the trip to be there during the 4th hoping for some kind of festivities, unfortunately there really wasn't much going on.

During our stay in Fairbanks we took trips to the Arctic Circle and Chetna Hot Springs resort. We also visited the Alaskan museum at the University of Alaska (highly recommended).

All in all I'd say that if I had known then what I know now we could have skipped this part of the trip. I would have rather broken the rental car agreement and taken the trip across the Denali highway. Saying that I crossed the arctic circle is cool and all but we could have spent out time doing more exciting things.

After Fairbanks we took the long trip down to Valdez. While this was a long trip the scenery was amazing, well worth it. Photos in this series will be from the Fairbanks part of the trip and the drive down to Valdez.

On your way up to the Arctic circle your basically following the Alaskan pipeline the entire way. Here it is:

You stop a bunch of times on the trip (takes ALL day). This was one of the stops where I took this photo of my wife

And here is the circle.. what happens is you get to this little parking lot and the bus driver takes out that rug and shakes your hand as you cross the "Arctic Cicle" LOL

One of the days we went to a hot springs resort where they have an Ice Hotel. We sipped Apple Martinis from ice glasses

After we spent a few days in Fairbanks we headed down to Valdez.. an incredibly scenic ride!

Your just driving down the road and all of sudden there is a glacier!

This was Worthington Glacier.. they have a visitor center and you can hike up to the glacier

And of course where there is all that water there are bound to be waterfalls!
