Oh, well, since you have the 18-50mm and 55-300mm, I definitely think it's time for a prime and the DA 40mm (or FA 43mm ;~) would be a good choice if that's a FL you like.

I think it really depends on what you shoot. If it's one specific thing--say, landscapes--then a good prime might be the ticket. If you want to shoot a variety of subjects, a zoom is a better choice. Eventually, you may want both in your kit but because I like to shoot anything and everything, my instinct would be to start with a zoom. In fact, that's what I did: started with the Tamron 18-250mm (quickly followed by the 43mm limited. ;~)
