I actually owned one of those earlier this century. It was quite clean and gave me some good captures. I named it Hak Lung (Black Dragon). Sold it to a PF member.

Me, too (and also intimidated by technology)--which is why, at a certain point, I give up on obsessing about ultra-maximum sharpness. At a certain point, I just dust off the front element and go out shooting. ;) This btw, is reason #7 (of 512) why I am not a professional photographer.

I'd recommend it--I find CIF very useful when using MF lenses.

Hmm.. I'm thinking about K to 4/3 (of course). It would have been fun to try the FA*600/4 with the Olympus body.

Nice set, Tom! As far as cropping is concerned, I just keep reminding myself that my first Pentax was a 6.1 MP K100D so anything above that is bonafide legit.

That certainly has been my experience. My understanding of optics is very limited but I gather that's explained to some extent by the fact that the TC is enlarging the "sweet spot".

Thanks! I think I need to develop some contacts. ;) BTW, the one time I did stumble upon a photograph-able owl, I had a fly-rod in hand rather than a camera

Ok, Weevil, that does it! You can't just keep dropping magnificent owl photos without including at least some clues about how you go about spotting them and getting within shooting range. ;) Any tips you could provide would be greatly appreciated!

Guaranteed! I've had both. Wonderful lenses! I did shoot the 400/2.8 with a monopod from time to time but the 600/4 was tripod all the way.
