Actually I like the Tokina design school for mechanics, more recent or even late film era lenses are very well built with great ergonomics. Still most is just plain ugly. Opera is their first lens that looks like made in XXI century. As long as within the Ricoh-Tokina co-op we don't get anything with Tokina coatings tech- I'm good;)

All ring type motors look quite similar and can be easily overlayed one on another, still it's possible they joined their forces. As far as it's reliable I don't care who is the designer. But, I had chance to use that Tokina zoom more than once, and it's nothing close in terms of operation speed to the DFA*50 as shown in recent movie demonstrations-I don't have one yet to compare;). Motor used for ATX Pro Tokina 70-200/4 is slow, but very accurate.

I wonder what are those Asahi optical corp sticker for, do they fit the prism case on cameras to tape over Pentax logo?

As I can say they never did use them after acquisition of Pentax. Maybe those ware old stocks. Black boxes ware used by Hoya, before that era there was that gray/red Pentax logo boxes used. Both looked, well, plain ugly, compared to that silver ones we have now. Also paint from those black ones was kinda chipping off with age, I had two, and both got cracks and chips of the paint on corners when stored and not handled at all for some years.

I don't realy care about the box, but this one looks like reinforced cardbox, used for DSLR packaging rather than for lenses. Most lenses used to be packed in thin outer silver box, and then plain cardboard inner box. Those looks diffrent.

I think that they realized that they need to tool up their production plants first for quality goals and current standards of high end products. That takes a lot of time and resources.

I'm quite sure that this "xx's Rumors" sites dude don't have any intel sources on his own or is anyhow related to specyfic brand or camera market part, his sites just copy&rewrite things from forums- no matter if it's some user speculation or actual leak from more reliable source. When it comes to non-English parts, there might be such confusing translation error as this one.
