I do understand:) I just wonder if you have any more details about why the other one could be canceled and what would it be if ever.

Having multiple options, is better than having one option. If one would like a technician to make the adjustment for him/her, other ways are still valid. Dock/advanced in body adjustment is just an option to do something by yourself, not a mandatory device to use.

That would be even better, because the shoot test photo , adjust, test, repeat etc. phase would be much more efficient without moving the whole setup.

Good for you:) I had better experience with both Sigma and Tamron service centers over the years than Pentax one, first under Hoya and then Ricoh. Most of my OEM gear was perfect out of the box, but stuff I had to send out for warranty was very bad experience.

As of today in my opinion Tamron Europe, under FocusNordic have probably the best quality service of any brand I had chance to deal with. They also service Pentax for Nordic countries, but for Poland I would need to send my gear to Germany or France by local distributor pickup point(one for whole country), and then they take minimum a month to complete any case.

Not in all cases. One can't for example update the lens eprom with in body adjustment and even with debug menu its voiding the warranty. Also one cant fix different focal length focus issues with that solution for zoom lenses. Programmable focus digital limiter feature is also possible with dock unit.

There is no negative side of that solution other than having to admit that not everything is perfect out of box and final user might be able to make some adjustments.

Limiter seems to be a very nice addition in place for VC.

For other part of that case, indeed OEM firmware seems to solve some problems but not all. Over last few years I had tried four separate units of DFA 24-70 with intention to buy one, two, brand new and probably first batch, had severe focusing problems(front focus or back focus depending on focal length set), not body dependant. Later, another one, also new was making grinding noise when focusing from minimum to infinity, but worked fine when focusing opposite direction. Last piece I've tried, used ,was sent by owner to adjustment straight out of box with his K-1 and was fine after that. Guy told me he had to send it twice, and it took around 3 months total. I almost got that lens, but seller changed his mind and kept it.

With dock unit I would be able to solve those AF problems myself and have a perfect copy without any warranty hassle.

When I see something extra added in official specs(other than price margin for "OEM" naming) I will get more positive. Both DFA 24-70/2.8 and 15-30/2.8 are made out of older mk1 versions of Tammy lenses but 70-210/4 is one of their newest designs that benefits a lot out of tap-in Dock.

Yeah, probably should be castrated out of VC and USB Dock functionality.

I had quite a fun with ATX-Pro 70-200/4 Tokina lens on Nikon. Nice build, awesome sharpness, but very very slow AF. And awful old style Tokina coatings.

But I don't think that we will see that lens rebranded. If so, it would be on a market for two years at least now.

Most of Sigma lenses from current 3 lines can be easily "chopped" into two specialized parts- front block that holds lens assembly and motor, and smaller back block that hold lens logic unit, bayonet, contacts and connection flexes that are used for communication between the two parts. Sony E versions re-released lenses are just the same front, coupled with different lens back to provide proper distance to mirror-less camera sensor:)
