I have not yet done it but I think a short length of PVC pipe very near (slightly smaller than) the diameter of the lens and slit down the length for a friction fit would work. I may try it if I pick up an 800, or for the 500 I have.
I had a Sigma 600 in my old film days...

I just noticed today (3/11) that the Sigma 600mm f/8 is available, after at least 2 years not...More than 2X the price of the Pro_Optic. Slightly longer and slightly slower....
