Got a combo set of Altura flashes (2 flashes, 2 receivers, 1 transmitter, cables, etc) to beef up my flash collection, plus 2 PocketBox 8x12 softboxes that mount on the flash, and 8 more Eneloops. A 3-ft coiled off-camera adapter should be arriving later (possibly lost at post office Adorama said it was being returned as undeliverable, yet it showed up the day after I asked about it...).

The PocketBoxes seem a bit unwieldy, though I have to give them some trial time. Regular rubber bands may work better than the supplied and attached elastic strap. I'm thinking the diffuser is not far enough from the flash head to allow flash to expand to anything close to 8x12. 6x8 may be optimistic. It should be more like a foot away. I just did not want to do the umbrella route at the moment.

The flash case has an internal pocket for the stand, and though the diffuser is pretty much useless, that little zippered storage spot for it also has loops for battery storage and may hold the Rx if I remove the diffuser. There is a decent velcro strap on the back of the case.

Also got some business cards. Just need some business...

I have a 34" 21:9 LG monitor coming. Was passively window-shopping monitors (previously was for TVs) and this discontinued one came up at the right price.

I have paid for, but don't pick up until next week from Best Buy...

Toshiba 43" 4K Smart TV for $299.99. It's one of a dozen or so 4K TVs BB has on their Labor Day sale. I was going to wait until after Christmas for some good deal but I guess this is pretty good. I have a perfectly good 32" dumb TV from about 2007 - but this has some other features, plus the high def. I hope I can get $50 for my old one. (If you are in So Cal and need a TV, let me know :-)

I was mulling the idea of a new 34" wide-format monitor (possibly QHD) to replace my perfectly good 23" regular one, but the new TV may perform double duty if needed, so a new monitor is out for now.

In another thread I asked about getting big prints. They have arrived :-)

I agonized for a little while about putting holes in the walls of my new condo, and about getting adjustable hangers for the three-in-a row big ones so I could line them up evenly. This is only the first hang using measurements only with no adjustments yet. Woohoo :-)

The Griffith observatory all by its lonesome but with room for expansion. (And above the desk as well).

This wall needed something...

Slightly offset on the wall as there is a wall heater on the bottom right. I can expand there and just take them down when I rarely would use the heater.

Now, where do I put my Beatles mirror...

I bought (or I should say will be paying for) a tiny studio condo, 4 miles from work, in a good location (a block or two from South Coast Plaza, and the Segerstrom Center for anyone familiar with Orange County). Beats the daily 35-mile round trip commute. Surprising how much stuff gets tossed when you have half the space to store it. The kids in the pool below my balcony is still better than boom-box idiots in the parking lot behind the bar...

My iPhone4 no longer rang, swooshed or pinged, so I wanted a new phone. Was leaning toward an iPhone SE or splurging on a S7 Edge or similar. I got a bottom-of-the-line Samsung Galaxy Express Prime (or Go, depending on what you read) for $159.99 and it does more than I can imagine using.

Yes, that's how it started for me. The first day it was only twice - both times when the start menu was popped up. Then it became more random, and multiple messages in a row - sounded like turkeys gobbling. With all the other variables, I think my monitor itself may have issues.

Well, it glitches far less often than before, but it has happened in essentially any application. The iPhone thing is particularly odd. Tried another USB cable last night, same issue.

Bought computer(s) starting on March 1st. Unresolved issues involving graphics adaptor or monitor or Windows 10 or USB. Basically a series of screen resolution changes and blackscreen - particularly when I connect my iphone. Less frequent on third machine :-( The IT guy at work looked at it, and removed some excess AV programs. It went 3 days glitch-free until I texted via connected iPhone that all seemed well... glitched right there. Resized the windows, etc, and got an incoming text from a friend - same result...

On a happier note, I got this 2015 Sonic LT (new) over the weekend (posted elsewhere).

You must be online to install. You only get so many installations, in this case 3. One was on my old Gateway, 2 were dead and out of town :-( Could not find the way to do it through the menu, and after 10 minutes farting around at Adobe online, I figured it out (Help --> Sign out --> Deactivate). They had left the "sign out" part off the instructions. It leaves it on the machine but not usable or counted.

I recently got an "Asus M32CD-US012T Desktop PC with Intel Core i5-6400 up to 3.3GHz Processor, 12GB DDR4 Memory, 1TB SATA Hard Drive + 8GB SSD Hybrid Drive, Windows 10".

My old Gateway quad-core mini tower had 4GB, which was enough to run Elements, but on the fringe. Although I had a full legal version of Windows 7, I could not get the 64-bit version on it. During the process of investigating the memory slots, the DVD drive was impossible to get back in the case and hook up the very short cable (using a plastic fork), so I added an extension and had it loose externally. It started having a boot failure issue and I decided it was time. Funny thing is twice I had to fire it up - once to get a few odds and ends off it, and once to deactivate Elements so I could load it on the new one - and it had no issue.

Odd thing about the Asus is it has no drive activity-light, and the SSD is silent. Is this thing on?

I got another photobook from Adoramapix. First one was my NYC vacation. This one is Route 66 from California to Holbrook AZ.

I think I will do one from my Las Vegas-Yellowstone-Mt Rushmore trip.

The first one was "free" as part of a camera combo. Sort of addicting, now.

I don't actually have it yet, but I've ordered a 10 x10 20-page photo book that was included with my latest camera combo from Adorama. Normally $50.

Rather than try to have it be some portfolio type of thing, I decided to make it just from my 2012 vacation in New York City. I jammed about 80-odd photos in it. I could not figure out how to get a title on the spine or cover, and decided to not have captions at all.

First time making one. I did it from scratch, though there are many page formats to choose from if you want. I learned about 1/2 way through you can just drag photos onto a page and size them as desired...

Expected about the end of the month.

A bundle of new Canon 6D, shotgun microphone, and 10x10 photobook.

It is a sidegrade/upgrade to the 5D original (ISO 1600 --> 25800 or something, 12MP --> 20 MP, same battery as my 70D, SD rather than CF, 3 --> 4.5 FPS, plus video). Also has WiFi and GPS. I will never use the GPS, but WiFi has possibilities by using the EOS Remote app to change settings and shoot stills. For innocuous street photography you can wear the camera around you neck while poking around on the phone....

It's a $200 mike that supposedly a video guy at work will buy for $100, so that helps. If he has any money...

The photobook thing will be a challenge. I was going to cram a variety of images in, then thought I would do a Route 66 thing, then thought maybe just my NY City vacation. Figuring 36-48 shots. Tough choices!

Sort of an inverse post. Just today I sold the last of my K-mount stuff, so about 6 or 7 members should be posting here soon :-)

Thanks!

Today I got a used 70-200L f4 IS, which supposedly is the last lens I need to get. Want is another matter... I did not want the 2X heavier and 2X $$$ f2.8 version.

4 GB of RAM which doubles the capacity in my mighty Gateway quad-core SX-2800 to 8 GB. I got the wrong stuff last week so had to wait for the correct retro sticks to make a 300-mile journey in 4 days.

I broke the hinges on the cosmetic front plate, had to fiddle with the HD/DVD connector, can't jam the HD/DVD back in far enough to line up the 2 mounting screws or get the side cover back on, but I think strapping tape will help there.

Now I can use the camera correction filter (which I think is mis-named as it is really more of a tool) in Elements without normally having to reboot for the next image.

Edit: Well, no I can't because of the 32-bit RAM limitation. Sounded good, though. I don't want to reformat my hard drive to install the Windows 64-bit version for such a rare issue.

Tuesday I got a like-new Canon 100L 2.8 Macro, and 5 little plastic battery boxes to keep spares organized.

Today I got a new Ruggard Outrigger 65 backpack. I've never been a backpack guy, but I had a hard time organizing my growing Canon collection of stuff in my Tamrac Pro 8 shoulder bag which was getting heavy on just one shoulder. Price seemed right ($49.99) and even better, I think it will work out for the "bring everything" outing (which likely is most). Just enough expansion room for the future - or lunch.

Been watching the price on a Canon 70D to replace the 40D. Best I've seen is $999.99 over the last several months.

I just received a combo deal of the 70D, Pixma-100 Pro 13 x 19" printer (it weighs 43 lbs), 50 sheets of paper, slinger bag, and 32GB card for $1149.99 minus $350 rebate = $799.99 final price. I'm selling the printer to a co-worker for $100, so the body, bag (may sell) and card (don't really need another) cost me $699.99.

Another damn Canon thing - an EF 28mm 2.8 IS. I tell myself this is cheap because it really is two lenses in one if used on cropped and FF bodies...

I think I'm done now. Until Gray Friday.
