Lens Rentals | Blog

I suspect the dfa 50 1.4 is simialr to the Sony FE 50 1.4 ZA which has a flatter field than the Zeiss 50 f2 Makro Planar at infinity.
"Remember, though, this is the field of focus at infinity. This is a Makro lens so it has a much flatter field at close distances. Non-macro lenses usually don’t change their field of focus all that much at closer range."

Yep, but it's roughly flat. I would like 3d grids showing field curvature. I wonder about lens drains like the fa 77. I get the feeling it's not just a slight curve but maybe a slight double curve to wrap around the face and then curve back?~~

An Olympic racer who scores 0.01 seconds faster than the next racer gets bragging rights and a gold rather than silver medal. Gold is currently about 82x silver. The otus is only 4x the Pentax. :)

Dxo scores the otus 50 and milvus 41 and don't do Pentax anymore. Of course they couldn't use the 800e to compare anyway. Dxo has the otus just behind the sigma 85mm at 51.

But focus planes are flat not curved. And if they were not the difference is in the circle of confusion, at least on apsc. If fov is 14 degrees I will have to step back so far to get a 20m wall in the picture that dof will increase more than the difference between the center and the edge.

This is a cool tool in theory at least because you can curve the focus plane to photograph a globe sharp or a circle of people.

Anytime a new tool allows new possibilities is a good thing. Corner sharpness at f1.4 is quite unusual since it has to be almost perfectly parallel to a flat object used handheld or the corner is out of focus anyway. Normally on a tripod at f8 trying to shoot a flat object I would still be using live view magnified and checking all the corners, especially if it's dark enough I need f1.4. If Pentax cameras had more frames/second a spray in a tight circle would help get one nice and flat or if not a focus stack of slightly angled photos might not introduce to much distortion.

He says he hates the sigma. Loves the more expensive, manual focus schneider kreuznach. The tamron 45 1.8 is cheaper but not as good.

The tokina might be heavy but that's ok.

"135g heavier than the Sigma 50mm F1.4 Art, but handles well on a Canon EOS 5D Mark IV. It doesn't feel front heavy."

The Pentax is heavy too. Probably too heavy.

"Despite its bulk though, the 50mm balances well on the K-1 II assuming you don't mind the combined weight of the package."

Pentaxians must be stronger since they like it and other systems are lighter I guess.

150000yen is what the da 300 also sells for so it should be comparable to what that would cost in your own market. In the us thats $1100.

Yhat seems sound. All of us can abhor people who come here only to say pentax lacks this or that. Do they ever want to learn why we like it despite what they think is wrong? When they do its welcome but it happens that a lot don't.

Tokina must be pacing back and forth waiting for pentax to release this so they can release their version.
