I forgot about the IBIS... Cameras launching NOW are IBIS firsts for several large brands and it's users are considering it a serious feature. It's old news for us along with pixelshift.

I keep saying this but the K-1 + KP strategy makes a lot of sense considering Pentax strengths. Speed, buffer and tracking AF is not where Pentax is ahead of the game. I imagine it's quite hard/expensive to catch up with the leading edge on the af front and it's essentially a software/electronics problem. Pentax seems better at the mechanical side.

Everyone clamoring for a new apsc camera should just check the DPR studio scene comparisons. Nothing is happening. New cameras are relased. Nothing is improving IQ wise. The new canikon FF milcs have banding issues from the PDAF and generally lackluster performance compared to the dslrs. Flickering evf's.

The KP looks solid in comparison. Lenses are coming in way to slow to give any confidence however.

I've always found that to be quite an odd choice. It's so soft and malleable, not properties I'd think would be good for the barrel of a lens. Any metallurgy experts out there able to explain the possible rationale?

Years ago now I thought that Pentax OVF indicators and focusing sounds made the Pentax experience feel less precise than the canikon. The fussy red lights and the sound of the focus confirm was just less convincing. This is completely about perception, but unfortunately much is.

It would be interesting if Pentax could innovate the optical viewfinder somehow. Perhaps just better display of focus points or the much discussed hybrid viewfinder. IQ and sensors seem to have stagnated so these other aspects become more important. The viewfinder being one of the most important would be a good place to innovate.

Can e-ink screens be made thinner? I'm imagining an e-ink display with the RAW histogram overlaid onto a Ricoh GR style greyscale edgemap for confirming focus (chimping).

As a K-3 II user I'd much rather they produce a KP II (if it includes GPS) when/if sensor tech makes a significant leap. I'd even prefer ditching the tilt screen and going more minimalist as long as IQ improves. There's an assumption that mega blaster is the way to go and that more is better just because people on forums are spec hunters. I'm not sure forums are a good place to understand what sells.

The idea that a da* lens requires a high fps big grip camera is imho misguided. The 11-18 will work just fine on the KP! The flagship concept is just weird.

Are there any real improvements in sensor tech? Seems like nothing is happening at the moment. New camera with same IQ seems odd to me.
