MFD = closest in-focus distance from the plane of the sensor or film to the subject/object

MWD = closest in-focus distance from the front element of the lens to the subject/object

For example, myy FA* 200/4 is MFD: 20 inches, and MWD = 11 inches

I have one, and it's very sharp, no question. Also a good telephoto lens.
