I hear that Lowell. There is a learning curve to using an editor but they do have some pretty cool tools. In any case, that is a great shot.

It's tough to get as good a shot as this with the sun to the rear of the bird. I have a lot of those too but most are not as good as this. I might suggest opening the shadow a little to brighten the head some unless you've already done so. Just my ¢¢.

Nice sharp image from that combo. Some older camera bodies won't AF above f/5.6 and those that do will be on the center point only.

It's not a failed shot. It's a "high key" shot.

I think I'd still be very happy with that image.

I do miss my A* 600mm f/5.6 although I was too slow trying to manual focus. I think I should be saving up for the DA 560. ;)

1000mm. Is that like the proverbial 10 foot pole? :D

Great capture riseform. I see them occasionally in YNP but they are elusive.

I tried out a D850 with the new 500 f/5.6 at my local camera store the other day. What an amazing bit of kit that is. It just blew me away at how easy it would be to carry into the woods. Yikes!
Then I got the D FA 150-450. :) I just can't afford to switch. :(
Great pics BTW.

I dunno Norm. I think a lot of folks would love images like that at ISO 3200 or 100 even. :hmm:

I think that it is because you were able to capture those shots while being caught out like that makes some of us very jealous of the AF of the D500 and a little unhappy with our beloved Pentax. :hmm:

Absolutely beautiful images. The D500 is a Nikon pro body which makes the difference in size and weight. There is a least one other D500 shooter on PF so I hope you'll continue to share your images.

There's another PFer who shoots a D500 and 200-500. Keep posting.
