Well, I too have finally acquired this lens, F* 300/4.5. Received it yesterday (along with an A* 300/4) and took them both out today to try them out. I was definitely impressed with the F* 300, super sharp right from f4.5 and very nice bokeh. The A* will require more practice on my part as it requires MF and it doesn't really balance that great on my plain K200D. Anyways, enough about that A*. Here a shot of the lens and a few shots I got today at a nearby lake park. Common animals, I know, but easiest to photograph when you get a new tele!
The handling of this lens is top notch (except maybe for the fact that you need to disable AF on the body before you can MF...but OK), and it feels great for both MF and AF. I love that it has virtually no CA or PF, which is great for a tele as such.
1. Lens!
2. beautiful duck, f4.5
3. Does pretty well at close focus, f4.5
4. Crazy bird, f4.5
5. Reaching out, f4.5
6. Far off strangers. with SMC 1.7x AF TC for a cumulative 510mm f8 (wide open)...still awesome! |

I didn't mean to imply that it was a dumb idea, but that it just didn't fit with all of the other "clubs" on the forum. That's all.

Just my thoughts but it seems like creating a "Club" thread just for one lens doesn't fit all the other clubs. They are generally for a series of lenses, such as the "M-Club", or the "Takumar Club." I believe that there is already an "F Club" (doesn't see much activity) but perhaps a better idea would be to create a "* Club" (if there isn't already one, I haven't checked). I'm not trying to antagonize and personally don't have anything against it but just making a suggestion based on what I have seen here at the forums.
