No evidence of Pentax on my recent trip to the states unfortunately and I quite agree about the border officials in the US! Would it hurt them to smile at least one in a while?

One thing that is a little worrying here in the UK is the disappearance (again) of Pentax cameras in the stores. In the past year stores that usually had 2 or 3 models on display have suddenly gone back to the usual suspects (Canikon and friends) so I can no longer go and get my hands on the new models, grrr!

Oh don't get me wrong I don't have anything against American beer specifically, I just don't like beer/ale of any sort - it makes me ill unfortunately :fedup:
Give me a distilled beverage any day!

Thanks for the driving advice, much appreciated! I'm the one driving and I must admit that first drive in LA is giving me the jitters a little. Once I've done that I will hopefully get my head around the differences.
I have requested a manual transmission as I like to drive a car - I'm looking forward to the challenge - and because I'm the driver I can stop when I want, mum is happy to go with the flow. :D

Don't worry I don't drink brewed AT ALL - fully aware of the reputation some of the American brands have in Europe. I'm much more into distilled drinks :D

Ooh, in 3 weeks I will be making the opposite journey over to the US. 24 days travelling in California (although we'll be sneaking over the border into Nevada and Arizona). My K-S2 will be coming!
Glad you enjoyed your trip to the UK, some beautiful scenery especially up in Scotland.

At the Duxford Battle of Britain Anniversary air show I saw a plethora of Canikon, a smattering of Sony and Panasonic, the odd Samsung and 2 Pentax (one was mine). Nearly fell over when I saw it sporting what loked like a 18-135mm as part of a two camera setup - the other did not look like a Pentax.

Was on holiday on the Isle of Wight (UK) recently and I saw no Pentax the whole time I was there. Interestingly, however, the Island Photo Centre with 2 shops had a big display of the Pentax - equal to Canikon. When I asked about it (couldn't believe my eyes!) the guy said that the company was getting more helpful with the advertising. This was also proved by the fact that they were offering one day courses sponsored by Pentax!
Just yesterday saw an ad in Amateur Photographer for a Pentax Showcase Weekend this weekend (well 4 days). Unfortunately it's at Camera Centre UK in Cardiff/Newport - 3 hours away, damn!
Are things on the up in the UK?

I own both the Canon and the K-r and its like chalk and cheese. I know which one I prefer (let's just say the Canon is going on eBay shortly!).
