Thanks for the information savoche...walked around the building but don't remember seeing that element...the 16-50mm was the only lens with me that day...I shall look at my pics again to see if I can spot it.

The other bonus for me is the WR...bought it for a trip to Iceland (heavy rain in Rekyavik) which kept me shooting - also suits the Scottish climate...recently purchased the Pentax 12-24mm to pair it with at the wide end...thanks for commenting Dewman.

It might be a tad faster...not to loud for me...and know it will work...hope yours fares better Mikesul. (p.s. also have the 50-135mm same issue, same cure...never found this lens particularly fast either method).

Thanks for commenting Mikesul...unfortunately the SDM failed after this trip...ended up converting it to screwdrive...no problems since.
