this is the huntingest dog we've lived with
goes nose to nose with possums, squirrels and raccoons, even when she should know better
my wife says she barks at air
however if you pay attention she's scented something or someone
with a west wind she scents/hears my wife's prius two blocks away

not if their human is a hunter as well
a dog's human doesn't have to be a killer
merely engage in the process
at one time we had six dogs living with us
from irish wolfhound to rat terrier
very occasionally we would let them off leash
two sighthounds
two terriers
two dogs
as a pack they distributed responsibilities by virtue of strengths
they were relentless
on the hunt and in the moment
any personal squabbles were set aside
just hunters
it was exhilarating and frightening simultaneously
