At lunch break I went to nearby lake hoping to get some bird shots, but they were all too far away, so I took a shot of Cattail.
Shot with K-1 and M*300mm f/4. I absolutely love this combo. IMGP7083 by Mako_Elite, on Flickr

Here is example how good the sensor is in the K-1. This shot of Great Horned Owl taken recently was shot at ISO 3200 and image still looks very good with very little grain.
Head of the owl was mostly in dark shade and in this shot some sunlight got thru the leaves and illuminated left eye.

You are 100% correct. I shoot mostly with manual focus lenses like SMC 500mm f/4.5 and SMC A 400mm f/5.6. There is never guarantee with AF, just improve your chances to get some decent shots like the hard to shoot Barn Owl in flight.
I am heading out the door to get some more shots of that elusive Barn Owl in the morning hunt :D

Thank you.
Yep, just hold the shutter down once autofocus locks in and let camera AF take care of the rest :D. K-1 autofocusing is way better then my K-50...huge difference.
I just ordered K-3 with battery grip, that is going to be my camera for BIF, action, sports etc with higher shutter frame rate.

Last few days I am trying to get some flying Barn Owls shots. It is a miles of walking to find them and then hoping that
will fly the right direction, not too far, light conditions, exposure etc.
I got some today. There was this Barn Owl fighting with Northern Harrier. After little skirmish owl resumed hunting not too far front of me.
Flying directly over my head.
I was testing how K-1 with DA 55-300mm WR would works and it worked well. I was shooting in "Crop Mode" to keep shutter frame rates up.

I was click away from ordering D-FA 150-450, but ordered DA *300mm/f4 for the extra sharpness ..not that D-FA 150-450 is not sharp. I just love prime lenses. I am waiting when Pentax will come out with something like 600mm f/4. Almost all the bird shooters I shoot with use Canon 1DXII with 600mm f/4 (about $18,000 setup, not including tripod and the rest :-)))...way out of my price range, but super nice setups.

Super nice shot. Nice job. I just ordered DA *300mm f/4.0. I hope it is just as sharp as your lens.

Very nice pics. I really love the bottom one the most. There was thread here somewhere someone arguing that you can't take good air show pics with K-1 or Pentax gear.
I wish that person would see this pictures. These are good as they get, top notch.
I was playing with 150-450 mm lens in the store when I was buying my K-1. This lens is on my wish list for sure.

Just got older SMC 28mm f/3.5. I am blown away with a quality of this lens. Even wide open still very sharp. This lens goes everywhere with me.
With K-1 this will make awesome landscaping combo.
