Nice shot Paul. Try to see if you can bring out the shadows a little and slightly more contrast to brings out the colors.

Here are shots of Short_Eared Owl from this morning. Me and my friend tracked this owl down. We crawled (laid flat) to get this shots. Inch by inch we were able
to get in good range to take shots. This owl was really tolerant to us and let us take the shots (Thank you owl :-))).
Not the best light conditions, shooting at 1/160 shutter speed. Dark overcast and soon as we were done shooting, it started to drizzle. We lucked out.

Thank you.
New shots from yesterday afternoon. It was rainy and windy for a while here and Short-Eared Owls were not hunting (too windy to be able to hear the prey (Voles) ), but yesterday it was nice and calm and owls were everywhere.
I took both of my camera setups with me. K-3 with SMC A 400mm f/5.6 for brighter conditions and K-1 with SMC 500mm f/4.5 when gets darker. I end up using K-1 setup later and I am glad I took it with me and get some awesome shots,
otherwise impossible to get with K-3 due to big advantage of the K-1 sensor in darker conditions shooting higher ISO.

Here is a picture from last month. There were tons of Pheasant hunters behind me and I was in the hurry to get this shot before I get a shot.
I slowly sneak up on this one. She was looking at all the time and let me get close "Thank you". Sun was just perfect...nice glow.

Thanks for the kind words. I totally used to manual focus everything so it works for me well. I was going to buy long prime AF lens, but I will more likely get SMC A *600mm f/5.6.
Nice sunset picture, the colors are very nice...great shot. ---------- Post added 11-12-16 at 07:46 PM ----------
Nice shots. It would be interesting to see same shots without TC to really take advantage of the K-1 and that awesome SMC A*600mm f/5.6. This lens is on my wishlist.

Here is another shot from last Sunday.
Too bad I couldn't get the Short-Eared Owl in focus in time with my manual focus 400mm. It happened so fast, it just flew over me. That is FF shot , no cropping.

Thanks for the kind words. Yeah I really like this lens. I shoot mostly at f/7.1 ..99% of the time (sweet spot). I only open the aperture wider if can get really close with no crop and be forced to keep ISO not going over ISO 1600 on K-3.
With K-1 I can crank ISO much higher.

Some shots from this morning. Rough-legged Hawk and Short-eared Owls. Conditions were challenging, constantly changing light.
I wish that owls could fly-by little closer to get more detail with less cropping. But I am not complaining, I take whatever shots I can get.

Thank you.
Thank you. I mostly use focus signal with a combination of visual what I see in the viewfinder. In brighter conditions or when closer I also add what I see in detail...but mostly by focus signal.

Some shots of Red-tailed Hawk. I was driving home from my favorite nearby field and I spotted this hawk munching on something. I got of the car and bird took of and I was able take some shots.
Luckily I had my camera turned on and settings still set for birds in flight. There was no time to even look at my settings, I just point the camera and manually focused and track the bird while
holding the shutter down.

Nice shots, love the colors of the Fall. ---------- Post added 10-02-16 at 10:50 PM ---------- Pectoral Sandpiper. It was resting next to the trail , probably after a very long migration. Later on , it flew away to nearby shallow bay.

I went to the marsh lands this afternoon again and another nice photographer showed me hiding (sleeping) Great Horned Owl.
I had both K-3 and SMC 500mm f/4.5 on tripod and K-1 with SMC A 400mm f/5.6 with me.
Since the Great Horned Owl was sleeping in the shade I opted for K-1 with SMC A 400mm f/5.6 and it worked out well.
Unreal how much detail K-1 can bring out from dark shaded image where the head was mostly in the shade and some parts of the body got some light on it.

Some shots of Northern Harrier from this morning in nearby fields. It was good as it can be. Sun was just perfect. I would stay there longer since there was another Northern Harrier hunting and I want to get some in flight shots, but hunting season is on (pheasants) and there were tons of bird hunters coming my way, orange wests everywhere, gunshots going off , so I got out of there before I get shot.
I was shooting with K-3 and SMC A 400mm f/5.6, I had my K-1 with M*300mm f/4 with me and I did took some shots with it and it was just a little short to get reach I want it.

Finally I got some time to play with new K-3. This camera is awesome. With the optional battery grip feels like a glove. Image quality is very good.
I love how quiet the shutter is, I even got a comment from a friend who shoots with Canon 1Dx who likes the quietness of K-3.
Here are some samples from this morning. I absolutely love 8.3 FPS on this body :D
I like to keep ISO 1600 or less so I shot this pics with my SMC A* 400mm f/5.6 wide open to keep ISO low. Normally I shoot this lens at f/7.1 (sweet spot)

Some fresh shots with SMC A 400mm f/5.6.
I really like this old lens. Very sharp and easy to use since it is "A" lens. Shooting it mostly in "Tav" mode.
