I understand the Sigma 8-16 is a fine lens and hope to own one some day. I recently bought the Samy (Rokinon) 10mm f/2.8 and I am having fun with it. APS-C is certainly capable of wide landscapes at least from an amateur point of view (IMO). I have also had success with the DA15 (that JASMAZ77 has) in that regard.

If you don't have a "nifty fifty" (or 55) you should IMO. If I was looking for a 50 in AF I would lean towards an F or FA 50 f/1.7 because of the cost. If you have any interest in manual focus, the M 50 f/1.7 can be had for a song and it is a fine lens.
Another approach: The DA 35 Ltd Macro is going for great prices on the used market. You could probably get both a used DA 35 and an F or FA 50 f/1.7 for about the same cash as the DA*55.
