Greetings - thanks for all the responses. I took Adam's good advice, and simply changed SD cards, reformatted, and waddya know I haven't had the problem since, with lots of test shooting / playback viewing. Thanks Adam, and for the helpful replies from all.
In case it helps someone, the card that I had a problem with is a SanDisk Ultra 32GB Class 10, with write speeds up to 40 MB/s. I put that same card in my trusty K20 D, reformatted in camera, and it seems to like that card just fine. For the K-3, I gave it an essentially identically spec'd Sony 32 GB class 10 card, and it has given me no problems since. Very strange, but delighted to have a solution....hoping it sticks for the long haul.

Adam - thanks for the quick response. I've formatted the SD card several times, but I've not tried a different card yet, so thanks for that suggestion. So if it persists with a new card, it sounds like I got a lemon - good to know. I'll update as things progress. Thanks again...

Hello - I'm a new member (nice to meet you all); this is my first post, though I wish it were under better circumstances. :fedup:
I have owned multiple Pentax DSLRs in the past (this K-3 is my fourth), and I've never experienced any trouble with them until now. I received a new K-3 from Adorama just a few days ago, and while it is a nice improvement in essentially every respect over my previous models, it has a flaw that is disturbing; every so often during picture playback it will lock up and become completely unresponsive...only pulling the battery out and restarting will recover the camera. I've lightly used the camera for four days, and this has happened once per day. This is with veeerrrry light use; I've taken less than 100 shots thus far.
I've searched the interwebs and this forum, and not found anything quite like this; some have said that it happens 'occasionally', and I've not seen the crazy flipping mirror issue. The camera came with version 1.11 of firmware, so after the first occurrence I updated to the latest (v. 1.21), but it has continued to happen. It has happened with a variety of lenses attached (including a fully manual Tamron 90mm macro); I believe it always happens when I'm zoomed into 100%, but not absolutely sure that's true in all cases.
I love using the camera to make images, but this playback issue is kind of a deal breaker...it's not like I'm doing anything unusual. So my question is, did I get a lemon? I like everything else about the camera. I can easily exchange it via Adorama....should I reasonably expect the exchanged camera to be free of this issue? Are people just 'living with' this problem and not posting about it? Not bloody likely, but I want to check with the experienced K-3 users out there first.
