Yes, that's what struck me as odd. But when not in use makes for a nice nesting place. Until you need to use it........

Kevriano, I had the DAL version of the 55-300 and liked it alot. But the PLM with its silent and fast focus has helped with my birding greatly. It does take a little more light but is very usable. Well worth it to me. Thanks.
