I've just been rediscovering the joys of bokeh while scanning a few 35mm slides taken with the 400 f/5.6 or 300 f/4 wide open - in particular the use of backgrounds like this that can be read, and contribute to the setting without making the subject harder to read. Much as I love abstract defocused backgrounds, this type of scene (and I'm sure there are many better examples) is where bokeh really comes into its own IMHO
