I was quite happy with this selection from a burst on the K-3 with the FA* 400mm f/5.6. It has a tendency to go out to infinity then get stuck with not enough contrast to know where to go next on the K-3, but this was prefocused, so no problem. You've effectively got a 1000mm f/4,5ish lens there on APS-C - you could do some nice moon shots with that :)

I've been a little critical of the FA*400mm f/5.6 on digital - it felt at times like it couldn't handle the pixel density of the K-3, but I'm wondering if slightly higher ISOs are the way to go - I was more pleased by the sharpness of this sparrowhawk visiting our garden in rather poor light, hence ISO1000, than with some of my other shots at lower ISOs.It might be something entirely else, but worth exploring. garden visitor (sparrowhawk - Accipiter nisus, female) by Graham Hobbs, on Flickr

Not my best ever, but here's my punt at today's 'supermoon' - the forecast for tomorrow is cloudy, so I thought better get it in. K3 with FA* 400mm f/5.6 near miss by Graham Hobbs, on Flickr

through double glazing and into the November gloom - and the first one ducked forward out of focus slightly - but sort of cute all the same - FA* 400 f/5.6 on KM-3 bath-time by Graham Hobbs, on Flickr drying off by Graham Hobbs, on Flickr

these certainly put to bed any idea that older 'film' lenses can't stand up in the digital age- cracking detail

great advert for that lens!
Looking back over the last year, I realise I've hardly used my FA* 400mm f/5.6 for wildlife once since I got the K-3 - I have, ONOH done quite a few landscapes with it - and I love it for moonrises :) io electronics, Poole by Graham Hobbs, on Flickr

somebody stole my SMC Pentax-F* 300mm F4.5 ED [IF] while I was living in South Africa, so I'd just like to say I'd love to post here but... ;(
