Nice shot again, the high contrast b&w works really well.

They're replaced pretty early :-) The LVB is only now gradually replacing the Tatra T4D trains from the 70s and 80s, which were modernized in the first half of the 90s (T4D-M).

Several more years, I'm afraid. Hopefully completely taken down before the next major earth quake. Looking forward to it - the viaduct produces extreme and wide-spread noise pollution and totally divides the city from it's waterfront. Lane-wise, together with the new surface street, will it not be the same number?

Ohh yes, they do, omnipresent. With 'we', I was referring to us looking at that picture, even though I do spend quite some time in Seattle. Seattlites usually just refer to 'cable' as 'broadband', implying an internet connection. The above is btw. 'round the corner from the Amazon headquarters, I hope their connectivity is not depending on any of those lines. The city has big plans for trams and 'light rail', recently opened their second tram line, along Capitol Hill. Meanwhile car traffic collapses.

Trams luckily form the backbone of public transport where I live. And while street design is predominantly still car-centric, we do find space for other use of our streets.

Utilities, when not run underground, can form a significant part of the appearance of streets and roads - as above guiding your eyes through the vast plane or as below, and we don't even have tram cables there.

This street n has been planned and built when our city prospered a century+ ago and sprawled into the surrounding villages. Pictures show plane trees (platanus) on one end and a two rows of linden trees in the stretch that I live in. In addition to the sidewalks/pavements on the outside, there were bridleways in between the trees. So far, we've been mostly successful to keep them free of parking cars and recently managed to replant ~70 missing trees in a collaborative effort between the city and sponsors.

Pictures where taken to discuss traffic planning with the city, so they show a lot of vehicles during a temporary traffic diversion - but also illustrate that, depending on the time of day, cycling constitutes a significant share of the traffic.

Confirmed, if only for a long Sunday drive during a business trip ...

The Scottish Highlands have their share too. I found those signs typically when coming off essentially single-lane minor roads onto two-way ones in touristy areas. I do remember a few panic moments on quite single lane roads in those fractions of a second when your instincts make you move to the right first, into the oncoming vehicle instead of making room for it. Wise choice in Australia to go for a pictogram instead of five translations.
