I can never tell whether Zebras are black donkeys with white stripes or white donkeys with black stripes.

A good way to learn about bokeh is to carefully look at this entire thread from the beginning. It of course shows a great variety of kinds and degrees of bokeh.

When I did that, I didn't wish to eliminate or disparage any of those kinds and degrees, but I arrived at the view that the best bokeh significantly contributes to the overall image and that image is better than it could possibly be without its contributing bokeh.

Fujica's 1978 entry-level screw-mount slr. Their bayonet slrs came out in '79.

Note that the lens pictured is the one I used for the Scarlet Runner Bean photo posted a couple of pages back in this thread.

This shot taken with: Tamron Adaptall2 01A f2.8-3.8 35-80mm + Pentax K110D + BW conversion.

Color version was posted in the Gear Poern thread.

This BW version is cross-posted in the B&W/Monochrome thread.

My first name is actually Steve, though I get called "Goats" or something like that more often. (There are a lot of other Steve's here already. Ha, ha. ) The signature honors Dartmoor Dave, a former member here, for his photos and interesting contributions. He not dead, just not a member now, and missed by several members.

I might have stopped down just a bit, but the early evening light was getting a little low for that. Also, not having filed off or removed the little Fujica proprietary tab, I had about a mm of extension. Handholding that magnification & slim dof wasn't easy.

We have reviews of the Fujica f2.2 55mm lens here at PF, but don't stop at reading the rating numbers. Interestingly, if I remember correctly, all the people who posted wonderful pictures taken with the lens gave it a 9 for Sharpness. Conversely, none of the people who gave it a 7 for Sharpness posted any pictures taken with it. I'm not sure whether that tells us more about the lens or more about the photographers? ;)

I put a slim rubber band around the back of the screw mount threads so that the lens would snug up to my m42 lens to k mount body adapter on my K110D and not leak any light on account of the Fujica tab. I won't be filing off the tab, because the lens came to me on a working Fujica ST605N body and I want at least one Fujinon lens to use on it. But I did want to see what the lens might do on a Pentax DSLR, That particular kind of bokeh came as a surprise when I looked at the file in larger size.

Same fence post, same lens, but from farther back. Little white asters turned to effervescence. Couldn't see it that coming through the viewfinder, so it was a fun surprise.

In the bokeh game it can take a long time to learn how to cross your "t"s and dot your "i"s.

Thanks!

The turntable is a Dual 1229 which I refurbished some years back.

Technically, the cartridge is an Andante E, but the Andante E & S and the Coral 555, and a couple of others are identical, or nearly identical, clones of the body used for the Sumiko Pearl and Black Pearl cartridges. I have the original elliptical stylus assembly for the Andante, but the cantilever end is broken off. But the cartridge came to me with a nearly new Coral 555-S (spherical/conical) needle, so it is the essentially about the same an Andante S. It also is very similar to the Sumiko Black Pearl, except that the Black Pearl has a .6 mil spherical, while my Coral 555-S stylus is a .7 mil. So for fun, I have been referring to my combo as a "Sorta-Sumiko Gray Pearl."

My 1229 came to me with a Pickering XV-15 cartridge, so initially I became a fan of Pickering and Stanton cartridges, and probably my best cartridge is a Stanton 881S, but I also love some Shures, and a few single-copies of other makes. As I have acquired more Dual cartridge holders, I can quickly swap cartridges, which is fun!

Many years ago, when I worked for a few years at a Nature Center in this region, a distinguished mycologist (scientist of fungi) retired to the city where the center was located, after a long career at a University in California where he had taught many younger prominent mycologists and authored authoritative books on the subject. He came to the center and introduced himself to our Chief Naturalist and generously offered to help out any time we, or visitors, to the center, had questions about fungi we couldn't easily answer. On a couple of occasions, over the following year or so, I phoned him when visitors had brought in something I could only tell them a little about. One of those calls was about a sample of slime mold that had grown over the wooden border of a flower bed in the visitors' yard. I had identified it as a slime mold, but when the good professor arrived he told the visitors all about the interesting life cycle of slime molds, how differently they look at different life stages--some of which the visitors had witnessed--and even discussed the likelihood of whether they might reappear again in the same place. It was all very fascinating, but the visitors still looked unsatisfied. Finally, one of them asked, "But WHAT can you do with it?' The grinning professor replied in the most happy and delightful tone, "You can do any damn thing you want with it!"
