The zoom will always be handy for unanticipated shooting situations when you might need wider angles of view or closer working distances than the 300 can provide. How much room can it take up, if you store it until such times arise?
There are other threads on this forum in which someone asks others why they can't seem to get by with having fewer than six lenses of a certain same focal length. You can't exactly be called a hoarder if you have two lenses of different focal lengths and one TC for your camera. And please don't tell any of our spouses or significant others that it is possible to have a camera/lens collection that spartan!
