I need to track down family photos of the Micro-Midget race car my dad made back in the 1950s. Midget racers, the next size up, looked like very small versions of the Indy cars of that time. With the Micro-Midgets. having room for a driver and a motor made it hard to maintain those same body lines and proportions.

I remember reading a book about the AEF when I was a teenager. They were a brave and adventurous lot,...inspirations in that terrible war.

But didn't Henry Ford say you could have your Model T in any color, as long as it was black? I don't think you could order it in Candy Green Apple.

I would be afraid of driving a car on the highway that wasn't a great deal larger than my coffin. ;)

Thanks! Considering that it might have been a mistake using the yellow filter--which seemed to make some of the shots on the roll look too contrasty rather than ferreting some blue sky patches out of the clouds as I had hoped--I did have to do a bit of pp with the scans that came back from Old School Photo Lab. I don't think I had to do a lot with this one. My main objective was simply to keep as much detail in the highlights and in the shadows as I could, while keeping some true black and some true white. I guess I got lucky with the middle tones. :)

It's the first test roll with this camera, which might put a bookmark in my adding to my small collection of rangefinder cameras, unless I run across something absolutely irresistible for a very, very low price. I'll try color film in it next.

Early 20th Century U.S. Mail delivery carriage. You'll notice that the powerplant for this vehicle is missing. Back when it was in use, it might have been found grazing in a nearby pasture.

A lot of paddling for no boat! Fall festival "Kettle Korn" maker stirring popcorn kernels in a giant wood-fired Wok. I think (but not sure) he uses a different pot and different paddle when he is making deep-fried pork rinds.

This is one of two vehicles at this summer's South Fulton Antique Tractor Show, held in Vermont, IL, that was labeled a "Doodlebug." In the Random House Dictionary, one definition of the term is "any of various small, squat vehicles," but even though this is the smaller of the two, it really isn't what I would call small, though its profile could be called squat. It is based on a 1928 Ford Model AA 1-ton truck. Modifications include oversized tires, including tractor tires in the rear, and a totally open cab area.

I fixed a tiny outboard motor when I was a kid. No hydraulic lines. Not even water cooled. Had a shear pin though. I had to learn how to replace them. A spline doesn't sound like something that would offer protection, but it would conduct a lot of power. My motor didn't have power. I was only a few steps above oars , designed before electric trolling motors had been invented.

Towboat with barges passing. Illinois River, at the riverfront park, Havana, Illinois.

Incidentally, there's a song about working on an Illinois River towboat. Here, sung (and accompanied on fiddle) by it's author, John Hartford, who had actual experience piloting steer-wheeler boats on the Illinois and Mississippi, and who surely spent some hours chewing the fat with bargeworkers:
