Are we really THAT rare?

One of the reasons why I went for Pentax is in fact the K-mount and all the benefits it brings :) . I was really frustrated with the lack of compatibility with anything else but the newest (read: expensive) stuff with the previous DSLR I had. Not to mention all the confusion that it made in my head finding the way out from all the missmatching mount types from the same manufacturer... Being one of the guys "on budget" and not being able to buy a good lens unless it cost premium $$$ made me start thinking about a reasonable alternative. Once the K-S1 popped out @300€ and fantastic image quality it brought plus all the bits (features) it offered, the game was over, ok, it has some quirky design details but I was not looking for a camera that would speak to others about how special or expensive it is but a camera that would please me with results... From there (K-S1) to K-3II it was quite easy... All my lenses already compatible, no more wasting time and money, instant pleasure with results...

In the past week I was on a trip to Regensburg (Germany), Edam and Amsterdam (Holland), Prague and Nova Hradečna in Czech Republic. Made a lot of shots (over 1600) and saw approximately ten thousand people doing the same. Some were using tablets and mobiles, some with prosumers (bridge) and some with DSLRs, cheap or not so cheap, but saw exactly zero people using Pentax... :( There might have been someone but I missed it...

Decided to sell my Sigma 28-300 as I never used it (got Tamron 70-300mm Macro instead) and a local guy called me to see it and maybe buy it. "Okay, let's meet and bring your camera with you"... and he did, a nice K-50 came along. I usually don't get way too friendly with people who I sell to or buy from, but this is a bit different. I guess we'll meet again here and there and a nice feeling knowing I'm not alone with a Pentax camera. :)

I don't think I'm smarter, better or superior to anyone by any means just because I use a Pentax camera as my primary tool to make better shots... I still keep my Canon SX50 HS close for light travel or as a good start-up tool to teach my daughter how to deal with light, composition, generally (digital) photography. She's still not ready for a DSLR, neither am I ready to spend that much money on her camera. If I'd have to pick one of these two to keep, that would be my Pentax, but I don't have to, finally, I worked really hard to be able to have a DSLR for my own pleasure and a good prosumer at the same time. Both have their advantages and downsides...

I recently decided to get back to DSLR and I was sure of one thing, it has to be new, not a used one. With a limited budget and say, fairly good experience with Canon, I was looking at 100D but wasn't really sure. Kept browsing around and found K-S1 (kit) on sale in a Hungarian webshop for only 300€ - the regular price is 540€. I remember that when I was a youngster, Pentax was always associated with proffessionals and was somehow always way too expensive for "common people". The reason for such a low price was the limitation in body colour choice, there was blue and white with red on stock, take it or leave it. Okay, I can live with blue, I thought to myself. And so I do. :)
Just later on, I figured that there's no official representative in Serbia, no service or any kind of support locally. But I don't mind. I'm happy with it and am also really happy for the feeling of being an owner of a "special" camera when I talk with other people who use Canons and Nikons... They always seem to surprise me with showing a certain respect for the Pentax brand/name...

No representative in my country. Had to go abroad to buy my Pentax. Locally, there are at least 15 or maybe 20 shops where one can buy a Nikon, Canon or a Sony. Go figure.
