Question about the light meter of the Cosina CT-1A (or it's many clones)

Update. I've found some youtube videos:

Miranda MS-1

You Tube

Cosina CT-1A

You Tube

Apparently the meter ONLY turns on when the shutter is half pressed!

Case closed :)

By the way, does anyone understand what the guy in the Miranda vidoe is saying? At about 5 minutes, he turn the shutter speed to 1s but the shutter remained longer much longer than that.

Yep, would like to change the batteries first. If all fails, I'll try to mod it so the meter would be swithced on by backing off the lever a la Nikon FM style.

At the same time painting it pink.. :D

Hi, I just got a Cosina CT-1A (in my case a Petri GX-1). I belive it's the most cloned K-mount camera ever. It manifests as the Petri GX-1, Miranda MS-1, Hanimex DR-1 and many, many others. It's also the backbone of the Nikon FM10, OM2000 and the Ricoh SLRs look suspiciously similar too. Even looks quite like my Pentax P30.

On my copy, I will need to half-press the shutter button to turn on the meter and when I release the button the meter turns off immediately. Is it supposed to behave like that or it's just my copy? It's impossible to meter by changing shutter speeds because my left hand fingers would need to half depress the lever to keep the meter on. That is so irritating!

I also have a small issue with the shutter lock, because the film advance lever must be extended to allow operation, but that can be solved with some mods.

Niggles aside, it's a really nice camera. The mechanisms are surprisingly smooth, although a little loud and crude in the acoustics. Beneath the plastic shell, there's a really solid, dead simple design. :)

If you have used this camera. please advise on the meter issue.

Regards,
