Every Button pressed sounds like a photo has been taken

Yes - exactly like that Darren. I can often take a couple of shots then it goes into 'Mirror Flop' mode. Fortunately it's still under warranty (not over a year as I first thought) and I'll sort this out when I'm home from holiday in Spain. I'll make a note of what was fixed on your camera!

Thanks and thanks to sterretje. So frustrating - I still have my K7 - wish I'd bought it with for backup! Hindsight is wonderful.

I have had a K5 for over a year now. Love it.
BUT.....over the last few weeks it has started to give me a problem. It doesn't seem to matter which button I press or whether I try and take a photo I get a sound as if I had taken a photo. But a photo is not actually taken. This happens regardless of which lens I use and also happens with no lens attached. So it cannot be due to dirty contacts on the lens.

The problem is intermittent (inevitably) and so far I have not been able to establish what sets this problem off. I have tried with a fully charged battery or a partially discharged battery - doesn't seem to matter. Also taking the battery out and then reinserting it. Sometimes this stops the problem for a while. Also switching the camera off can help but not always.

Am in Spain at present, could heat affect it? But I'm fairly sure this problem has happened in England with no high temperatures.

Hope I've clearly explained the problem. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Cheers....John

Totally agree with you Mr B. I tend to shoot RAW only but in the past have used RAW+ as described by JohnX and it stays that way until you change the setting to RAW or JPG.

Cokin P Infrared (round) Filter

Many thanks Jools, RioRico, Just1MoreDave and blackcloudbrew for all your useful help - seems I have a lot to learn and to experiment. I do still have the viewfinder cover (somewhere) and will dig it out to keep in my camera bag.

I use Cokin P and the round filter slots into the slot nearest the lens so that should help to keep out extraneous light too.

The Cokin Filter is the P007(89B). The P series is good for up to 82mm threads and the Sigma 10-20mm has a filter thread of 77mm so this should be OK although I suspect there could be some vignetting at the wider end of this lens.

Now up to me to find the right weather and scenery and try it out - to sum up: -

Tripod, low ISO, wide(ish) angla, F8-F11, viewfinder cover, White balence about 2500K. Plenty to consider!!

Thanks again.

Cheers...John

I have a K7 and am keen to make a start in Infrared photography. To begin with (and due to expense of a dedicated infrared camera) I'm going to use a Cokin Infrared round filter.

A number of questions please.
1) As you can see I have a few lenses - is there any 'best' focal lengths/ranges to use?
2) Does ISO matter?
3) Is there a best F No to use?
4) I usually shoot in RAW (PEF). Are JPGs better?
5) For post processing I use Elements 7 and Camera Raw - any suggestions on how to get the best out of the image via Camera Raw and then into PE7?

Thanks in anticipation of your help

Cheers.....John

Too true!! BUT - the manual has 328 pages!!! Just a bit of light reading before you go to bed. ;)

I tend to look at the pages I need but periodically on this and other Pentax sites I learn a new 'trick'. A recent one I picked up was "Catch-in Focus Mode" on page 128. Quite useful - never knew it was there.

Under "How to take Pictures" it says "Attach a proper Lens"! Wonder what an improper lens is?????

Cheers

A while back I saw a miniscule insect through my viewfinder. It was walking somewhere inside the camera. A blower did not dislodge it but eventually it disappeared - must have died. BUT - i wonder if it's body is still lurking somewhere ready to attach itself to the sensor!!!!

It was most disturbing to see it through the viewfinder.

I have just the one K7 - but when (and if) I get a K5 I'm very tempted to keep the K7 - so I will then have 2 DSLR bodies.

Thanks leftfluss - have looked at the thread and the Raynox website - does this lens work equally with a macro lens and a zoom(eg 18-250). Would inserting an extension tube work just as well, worse or better??

Would be interested in comments - I love Macro and the Raynox looks a good - and not expensive - purchase.

I guess there is much less depth of field using one?

Cheers...John

Great Macro shots - never heard of the macro adaptor - what does it do to an existing macro lens??

I have a Sigma 105mm Macro - would such an adaptor make for better, closer macro shots?

Cheers

Hi Pentaxforum Users. I have just joined and am looking forward to reading and contributing to the Forum.

I have a K7 with a number of lenses and am seriously thinking of upgrading to a K5 - when I have saved up enough money.

My main interests are Landscape, Insects and Birds - and very recently my first Granddaughter.

Cheers. :)
