COVID in our house too - but only the lad; none of the rest of us caught it O_O However, it did lead to a week of cat pics. xP

As for the question, did I pick the right lens Ö hoooo-boy I love this thing. Iíve barely if at all used it since I got the Takumar Bayonet 135/2.5, because K-mount, and because wider aperture so just because. ;)

But Ö wow. It looks cool, it handles beautifully - the focus ring is fairly slow to move from near to infinity, but its feel and the length of throw mean itís surprisingly easy to nail focus (in conjunction with the focus confirmation beep/square).

The rendering, colours, bokeh, detail, everything are just fabulous. I love it to bits, and just wish its base was wide enough that I could stick the adaptor on and drill a hole to convert it to K-mount

I think the basic forum rule is (or was) 1024 on the long side. Thatís just what Iíve always adhered to for these posts too.

By convention in this group, if we post secondary (or tertiaryÖ) images they should be distinctly smaller than the primary one.

Ah that would definitely make a big difference.

CiF always sounds really good. I just havenít put in the time to get a handle on it - or get it to be in my memory of tools to use.

July with the other plastic fantastic: DA 50/1.8. I have enjoyed it, though I wouldn't say my performance has been inspired. I have the idea that I love 50mm on APS-C, but whenever I put it on I'm not sure. Looking back through my 50mm pics, it has been a great focal length for pics of the kids - and they don't generally accept the camera any more. xP So there's that; loss of the main subjects it excelled at.

Still, it is really nice. Like every lens I ever use, I could wish it focused closer - but it's not too bad in that regard.

Cheap, light, does the trick, sometimes imbues images with a nice character... it's all good and nothing bad, really. I'm sure there are better 50mm lenses, but I certainly find nothing to complain about with this.

As for the month's work...

It renders cats well (Sully at least):

Sully Ö Smaug by -Occasionally Focused-

Flobbing floof by -Occasionally Focused-

I really like this, even though it's the work of Nature, not me ;)

That Tree this morning by -Occasionally Focused-

There is (or can be sometimes) a good character to the lens; these show different sides of it:

Grime by -Occasionally Focused-

Tallneck by -Occasionally Focused-

This might be my pick of the month in some respects:

Abandoned or congregated? by -Occasionally Focused-

No reason not to get it unless you have a better 50 mm ;) That sounds rather backhanded, but I don't mean it that way. I really like it.

Ah ok. Switching the auto/manual switch on this to auto opens it up for a bright viewfinder for focusing- just need to go back to manual (I think) for it to stop down for the photo if desired.

And Iíve used catch in focus perhaps three times ever xP So I shouldnít miss it (nothing against it; I just donít think of it)

Ok, I think Iíve decidedÖ Iím going to chuck the SMC Takumar 135/3.5 on for the month. If I donít, Iíll just keep wondering what it would be like on the KP - so itís best I find out. ;)

As always Ö but maybe I should use something Iíve been avoiding - maybe for no good reason: M42 lens on my KP. My ďreasoningĒ such that it is, is based solely on a baseless (?) fear that it will introduce more dust than a K-mount (because of the screwing/unscrewing)

I have no idea whether or not that is indeed the case.

And even if it is, if Iím strict about only that lens for the month thereís only one unscrewing involved.

So maybeÖ and if so, itíll be my SMC Takumar 135/3.5. I would kind of like to compare it to my Takumar Bayonet 135/2.5.

If not Iíll probably just do the Plastic Fantastic 35/2.4.

Mid-month with the other plastic fantastic: the DA50mm f1.8Ö

Lovely. I am really happy with this lens. Not so much with my performance, I guess, but the lens is really nice. Itís funny: I have it in my head that I love the 50 mm focal length on APS-C, but every time I spend a month with it in recent years Iím just not sure about it. Maybe itís that ambivalence coming through in some of the pics; another thing was working from home the week before last due to train mess-ups, and this week due to (mild and eventually not COVID) not-quite-wellness.

Still, Iíve managed a few shots Iím happy with, and the lens performs well.

Really nicely put. It has made for some of the hardest things my wife and I have done, but it is important that we take on that burden, to spare our companions theirs.

So, June, returning to the wonderful HD DA 21 mm limited. I really do love this lens. I've been a bit off in terms of my mental focus (ha!) this month, which I'll put down to work: my boss, the Director of Clinical Services for mental health for our local health district, has been away for four weeks, and muggins here agreed to act up in his position. It was nice to hear that members of the Executive let out a cheer when informed that I had agreed to do so, and the month has gone really well, but it has demanded a lot, and I think that time to think about photography was a bit of a casualty. Happily that did coincide with some nice morning skies for reasonably pleasing safeties. ;)

As for the lens ... just like I remember from my 12 months with it through 2021. I just love pretty much everything about it. Sometimes I think that faster than 3.2 would be nice, but then ... nah it's great as it is. I decided to shoot mostly in TAv, in an attempt to make shooting more of a consciously thoughtful process. I don't know how much of an effect it had, to be honest. I also decided to limit my photos taken, as though using a few rolls of film. That was good - but perhaps simply easy-ish due to the aforementioned time casualty.

My verdict remains: unless you are constitutionally-opposed to this fairly wide focal length, you should have this lens. It can imbue even the dumbest photos with a character that lifts them above the photographer (at least, when the photographer is budget like me...). I'll also emphasise, as I have before: stay the hell away from lens "corrections" in post, as they suck the life out of this lens.

My faves from the month:

Bike rack off Flushcombe by -Occasionally Focused-

Morning by -Occasionally Focused- - one of the aforementioned safeties, in all likelihood.

Not sure why, but I do like this one:

Graffiti wall by -Occasionally Focused-

Getting taller by -Occasionally Focused- - the boy's shooting up at a great old rate

B&W kuro obi by -Occasionally Focused-

This was different for me, and came out as I'd hoped:

Third proof sheet. It could have been another thirty if I had included all of missy-mooís drawings I photographed on Sunday - but I chose not to. Theyíre hers, not mine to share (though I am using one for my dayís pic, so it is in this proof sheet too).
