Enkou-ji in Sukumo, Kochi prefecture is OHenro temple 39. The temple was established in the year 724.The temple has a bronze bell which dates from the year 911, and is the oldest temple bell in Shikoku. The couple wearing white are OHenro pilgrims, reciting sutras.

A Bay of Islands
by RobGeraghty, on Flickr

From a corner on route 56 in Ainan, southern Ehime, you can see this wonderful ocean view. On the right are the three peaks of Mihhadata Island, in the distance beyond is Yokoshima and Koyoko Islands. What looks like a peninsula on the horizon to the left of Koyoko is Kashima Island. On a clear day, perhaps you could see Kyushu in the distance. The darker peaks on the left actually are part of a peninsula on the shore of Shikoku.

Wow, thanks Tony! :) The only disappointment I have with the HDDA 55-300 PLM is that it tends to get vignetting at wide apertures at 300mm.

Thanks! I think the sanctuary people have painted the quills in patterns and colours so they can easily recognise individuals when counting them. Great bird-in-flight images! I haven't had a lot of success with that myself.

Thank you! I haven't seen many really colourful birds in Japan, so it was worth chasing this guy. :)

Thanks! I might see if I can make an A3 print to put on the wall at work, to take my mind away from things now and then. :)

Thanks! It's a great lens - good colour and reasonably sharp for something so light and compact. I wish I could take my DFA 150-450 with me on trips overseas, but I can still get some nice shots with the PLM. :)

Thank you! I had to stalk him around the gardens, but luckily he decided to pose on the temple wall. :)

Thanks! :)

Thanks! I'm glad you both enjoyed it! I'll keep an eye on NHK. :) If you haven't been to Ritsurin, I thoroughly recommend it, although if you could visit in Spring or Autumn it will be even better! :)

The first time I visited Ritsurin, I got to sit in the tea house on the opposite side of the pond and enjoy the reflections for a while. :) The image isn't cropped very much - just from the camera pixels to 16x9 for an HD full frame.

Plus the three stones and their reflections, and the reflections of the boat and the passengers. Most of the elements here are of course the intention of the designer of the garden and the result of years of hard work by the gardeners. There's lots to see in the scene!

Thanks! I hope to see it in Spring one day, so I can see the Azaleas on the island in bloom. :)

From Ozu Castle, we drove to Meiseki-ji in Seiyo town, southern Ehime. Kukai, the monk whose journeys resulted in the OHenro, rebuilt this temple in the year 822. It is the 43rd temple of the OHenro pilgrimage.

Ritsurin Gardens by boat
by RobGeraghty, on Flickr

Ritsurin Gardens in Takamatsu, Shikoku are one of the most famous gardens in Japan. One of the cutest features is an Azalea bush shaped into a heart. It would be fun to photograph it in Spring!

Best camera-lens combos for aerial photography
Posted By RobG

It's really hard to suggest what is "best" because it depends on what you want to photograph. Personally I'd go for the 645Z with the 28-45mm for a bit of versatility without the need to change lenses. Maybe combine that with the K1 and 77mm limited in case you spot something which requires a longer lens? From your description of the intention, it sounds like a wider/faster lens would be appropriate, rather than a longer lens. Most of the aerial photography I've done has been air to air, so I wanted a longer lens, not a shorter one.
