No astrotracer? No EQ mount? No problem.

Just stack.
And stack.
And stack some more.
Then you stack.
And stack again.

Neowise with 300 exposures taken with a Pentax-A 50mm 1.7.

The Fermi Paradox is an interesting analysis of why we haven't been visited by aliens yet...

Fermi paradox - Wikipedia

---------- Post added 11-05-20 at 10:28 AM ----------

Last year, my friend was planning a trip to Africa and I helped him purchase a camera for this once-in-a-lifetime trip. Based on his needs and budget, he ended up with the Sony RX10 III. Before he left, we met in the park to give him some instruction/practice with his new toy before his big trip. I rode to the park with a motorcycle I was reviewing so that he'd have some practice photographing a moving target.

I'd never touched the camera before, so it took some time figuring it out. It's DSLR-size superzoom with a 1" sensor. While playing around, I managed this shot, which the magazine designer chose as the opening 2-page spread:

2019-09 BMW RA OTL Sep-Oct-R1250RT by John Flores, on Flickr

After some practice, my friend even managed to get this action shot that ended up being published

2019-09 BMW RA OTL Sep-Oct-R1250RT-2 by John Flores, on Flickr

He had a great trip and came back with some photos that he's printed and framed, so overall a success.

I've been scattering images taken Saturday morning on several threads. It was an ephemeral photogenic opportunity.

Out with the ZS100. Some images it doesn't handle well, like black and white border collies, Colour contrast it handles very nicely. But the main thing is, the weight doesn't interfere with my walk.

Start of the walk, almost still on the property.

Welcome to the Q! All Q models are great cameras. They bring freedom to photography and are a joy to use. Q are also very addictive. Bought the original Q when it came out. Added a Q7 and all the lenses, except the Toy tele. Adapted lenses are a whole new frontier. Enjoy.

Thanks,

IR infra red conversion for Pentax Q cameras

Using a Pentax 02 lens and the Hoya R72 on my Q without the IR cut filter. Will have some other IR pass filters to try out soon.

A surprise finding. Same 02 lens but this time with a cheap variable ND when set to max by eye looks black, blocking out the visible spectrum but I found it is actually still letting through IR! The output is pretty stark. Quite handy being able to change the strength of the IR effect with a quick twist of the front filter vs swapping in a dedicated IR filter like the Hoya R72. Maybe some polarisation is happening to the IR too and perhaps not the best way for an IR pass, but at a pinch its a neat trick!

Taken with variable ND at max.

Turning a variable ND to control IR!

Given how Hong Kong has less than ideal conditions, as a novice 1st timer, I am pretty chuffed with this early result. Can make out the Milky Way from the raw file, shot with my Pentax Q-S1 and 02 standard zoom at its widest. ISO400, 30 second exposure aided by the Sightron nano.tracker.

Thanks @geo444. This NX-Mini is quite an eye opener. I bought mine used with a kit lens for a good price and it surpasses my expectations. Can not wait to try it adapted on a telescope.

Nikon 1 love?

I loved the idea of it, but never actually got around to using one. M43 is a fairly established market and I think the 1" sensor ILC market opportunity was very limited.

Anyone else think the Nikon 1 series was genius? I really liked their concepts and the potential. I will admit it didn't seem too well executed but by the very end the J5 was finally got detail and noise down and just needed a more pro set up

Didn't see anywhere like this to get the RX100/G9/G7 users together!

Have been very pleased with my old RX100M1, and now have replaced it with a G9X Mark II. Not a replacement for a larger camera, but better than a phone and pocketable!

Let's see how it gets on...

Pentax Q for astrophotography beginner?

Geo444 did you see these new tiny sensor astro cams? They have a smaller sensor than the original Q, if the mentioned 7.2 crop calculation is correct. Reading the comments is illuminating. Some have no idea why a small sensor is useful in astrophotography. A shame.

Any idea how the Q would perform vs these Tiny cameras?

Overall I am pretty happy with this old lens. I ordered it on Amazon for $259 and they forgot to send me the hood shade so Amazon gave me a credit for $51!. I pretty much got this lens for $200. It seems its pretty sharp @ 2.8 and I love how close I can get with it.

(cross posted with a similar thread in the AP-Forum)
NGC6888 is called the Crescent Nebula and is an emission nebula in the constellation Swan.

I reedited the NGC6888 data I shot last October with a bit more pp-experience and as another test of the stacking freeware Sequator. The K5 was set to ISO 80(!). Unbelievable what is possible wit that low ISO with the K5! It is against all theory that I read out there.

Hi,
I have an old Kenko 2x Macro converter... nothing fancy, just... working, that's all! :-D
I've done many good macro shots with it, and couldn't find better for what I paid it (flea-market price ;) ), definitely a fan!
So, if this is news, then I'm very happy to hear it!
