Thanks,
The DA560+1.4TC was a such a nice combo, and could be shot handheld. I miss it and may re-purchase it when the new APS-C camera comes and has K3-like IQ at a higher level.

That is a workable arrangement for landscape and macro, where I never use burst. There are other types of photography where it's not really the best strategy. But it is quite possible you don't shoot small birds or moving critters that don't pose. I'm not sure whether you're saying you only do photography that you can set up for a single shot, or that you limit yourself when a burst would be more appropriate.

You'd have to prove to me that sitting a blind you could nail the shot you want. I do exactly what you do, wait compose hit the shutter button, but then I keep the shutter going until the bird changes position. It's very rare that the first frame, the only frame you'd have is the one I choose. Its not about getting one good one, it's about having 6 or 7 excellent images, and being able to choose your favourite pose from the group. With small critters, your reflexes aren't fast enough to catch the preferred pose. All you're saying to me is you shoot less demanding subjects than I do.

Thank you Kath for the awesome advice and the pictorial depiction. This is very close to what I had in mind as a stable, reliable and convenient way of carrying two monster camera-lens combos for most of the day.

I was restricting myself to Lowepro and Think Tank products. Didn't know about Cotton Carrier. I will check out the recommended product. Thanks again.

We are not unicorns. We are the Jedi Pentaxians. We are rare but yes we are deeply involved with the powers that thrive in photography. May the force be with you.

There was a slight rain delay today with my hummingbird "stop the wings with my flash" quest. Only took a few shots, don't want to stress them when their soaked....

Still playing with the images from Arizona. My apologies if I'm overdoing it, but it was really exciting to photograph something other than the usual Pacific Northwest suspects.
This was the first time I ever braved taking the 560 on a flight.

Kath - I don't know why I missed your original post (the one you linked to), but it's a great demonstration that shows just what can be possible with the Q-series cameras and adapter :)

I have a celestron C90 1000mm F11

The biggest issue I fought for years was vibration, you need a really good tripod and head to keep it stable.

The other option I have is a Tamron 200-500/5.6 that with a 1.4x converter gets you to 700 mm. I have also played with ultra cropped sensors, take a Pentax Q and put a 300mm lens on it, with the crop factor of 5 it makes a 1500mm full frame equivalent F4 lens.

Is that long enough and fast enough?

When I limited myself to ISO 800 or lower on my K-30, I usually had to compromise - but with the KP I've been willing to go up to ISO 12800 - which effectively means no limit during daylight.
