None of the other makers seems to give the same level of features for the money, and everybody else seems to go for high fps and other bragging rights instead of absolute image quality.

GX-20 Specs

It says in this article that the K10D only used 12bits A/D although it was capable of 22 bits. There is a possibility that the GX-20 is similar. The 14bit converter is *not* a downgrade from the K10D.

The K10D has support for it as well.
The connectors are the same as SDM uses.

Probably 0.something or 1.0beta

It's not uncommon to label a software release as say v0.7, v0.8, etc. and let 1.0 and higher be production releases.

Or do as I did. Get a bunch of Minolta NP400 batteries (made for the Minolta 5D). They are identical to the K10D batteries and cheaper.

I would say XP or (K)Ubuntu, unless you're a master of Gentoo.

I tried Vista (Ultimate) over two months (as my university is part of the MSDNAA network, I get all operating systems and most software packages for free). On an Athlon 64 3000+ with 1GB RAM and a 256MB Radeon X800 (not the newest and shinyest hardware on the block, but it still does the job with the newest games under XP), was almost useless running Vista. After two months, I felt that enough was enough, and reinstalled XP. I've seen (and know) people having brand new and pretty fast computers running Vista adequately fast, but after "downgrading" to XP, got a completely new experience out of their computer.

On my laptop, I run Mandriva Linux, mostly because I've learned how to overcome its small quirks, but for windows converts I mostly recommend Ubuntu.

This is what I would do: Install Ubuntu with OpenOffice, GIMPshop, Firefox (and maybe even some XGL version if you're adventurous), and see if it's possible to make her tolerate it. If not, just format and install XP.

Sorry for not replying. I've been working late lately :-/

It wasn't a rubber duck, but close enough. It was a porcelain (or similar) duck. Whoever's fit for the task may take over

It should handle gamma without problems.

All I do to use it is to put the .icc somewhere available, and add 'xcalib /path/to/profile.icc' to autostart. I use a Spyder2 to make a profile under windows (dual boot)

Another way to get a calibrated display under linux is to load the color profile (generated under windows) with xcalib. I do that on my laptop, and it works great.

What brand is the card?

Can you put it in your camera and try and fill it? just set the camera to continous shooting and fire away. If that works, then it's probably not the card
