seriously considering this... Sigma 18-250 HSM OS for Pentax

You'll love Sigma's OS. I tried it out in a 150-500mm and I'm actually able to frame pictures at the long end rather than shooting and hoping to get something with good composition.

Adaptall PKA adapter works on K100D, not so well on K20D?

I had the same problem, 'A' adapters that worked better on my K100D Super than on my K10D and K20D. Eventually I ran across this thread that helped to mostly solve the problem:
https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-lens-articles/50689-fixing-tamron-...a-adapter.html

I still found that some lenses would loose the ability to transmit aperture info if you twisted the lens the wrong way on a K20D body. It happened more often with a heavy lens like the 300mm f/2.8 than with the smaller 135mm f/2.5 I had.

Shims for Focus Screen in K10D?
Posted By dkittle
Replies: 22

I got these part numbers from KatzEye. You can order these parts from Pentax Service US, but they only ship in the US. I had to order my shims from KatzEye :-(

The part numbers for the K10D/K20D shims are as follows:

76830.M02200A - 0.15mm
76830.M02200B - 0.20mm
76830.M02200C - 0.25mm
76830.M02200D - 0.30mm
76830.M02200E - 0.35mm
76830.M02200F - 0.40mm

Either the 0.25mm or 0.30mm is the standard and correcting a front focus problem will require a thinner shim.

My K20D required a 0.20mm shim and it was out by about an inch at close focus (3') distances with a 50mm lens.

Oh, I was SUCH an avid collector. What's left is about 4 adaptall lenses, 3 adapters (two of them PK/A), some manual lenses like a Vivitar 50mm 1.7, a Viv 2x TC, extentions tubes and the stuff I'll likely never part with: a DA 55-300, Tamron 28-75mm and a Sigma 70mm macro... Though I just picked up a Sigma 150mm macro for my N***n so we'll see how long the 70mm lasts :-)

It's K mount (which I think is the same as M mount). I don't think Pentax ever made an "M" version of this lens - just K and A.

Umbrellas for Lighting - White or Silver

Hey there. My most recent blog post has some examples of all of my light modifiers (bounce, shoot-through, grids, snoot, etc) in combination with a shoot-through used for fill.

I tried getting some convertible umbrellas but found that I got almost 2 stops less light bouncing than the ugly bounce umbrellas I already own. I returned the convertible umbrellas and resigned myself to carrying an extra umbrella around so I didn't have to shoot at full power all the time.

Do I want FF or not?

I made the switch from a K20D to a D700 for my portrait photography. I love how must faster AF usually is, but even the D700 hunts some times in low light :-) I see dramatically less CA/PF in my pictures, but not much difference beyond that. Note I only really print 8x10 or 8x12 or simply view on my monitor.

For nature photography I had to part with the Sigma 100-300 f/4 that I used on my K20D and bought a 150-500mm for the D700. Bigger, heavier and gotta shoot at f/8 to get the same sharpness I used to get at f4. Darn good thing the body has good high ISO performance, I need it :-)

Has FF changed my life. Nope. Has it made me a better photographer. Nope. Has it made an incredible ($700 vs $3000 body) difference in the quality of my photos. Well, gotta say, not really - it's pretty subtle.

Here's an example - one photo is a K20D with a 77mm, the other is a D700 with an 80-200mm zoom... What do you think?

SALE PENDING

Item for Sale
Sigma 100-300 f/4 DG

Asking Price
$925 USD

Item Description
I've switched systems, for the most part, and need to sell my beloved Sigma 100-300 f/4 DG lens. I bought it last October and it's led a very pampered existence. This lens is positively amazing, sharp wide open, fast to focus and a real joy to use. Works very well with Tamron's 1.4x TC and others too I'm sure.

See my post here for some gushing over the lens.
sigma-100-300-f-4-high-park-mini-review
NOTE: Sigma tweaked the focus and the lens functions perfectly.

Come with original front and rear caps, lens hood, soft case, original box.

I'm including a Hoya HMC Super UV filter and polarizer (82mm) included in the price.

what radio transmitters work with pentax HSS?

Oh, my cheap P-TTL cable locked onto my hotshoe and I had to rip it to pieces to pull up the locking pin and get it off of my K20D. The cable never worked completely reliably after that :-(

Gooshin, you can use the onboard flash of a K10D or a K20D to trigger (optically) AF360 and AF540 flashes. Range is REALLY limited outdoors/in bright light.

I bought a cheap ($35) P-TTL cable from Henry's with the idea of cutting it and splicing in wires to run to my flashes, but never carried through with the idea. I found that I prefered metering with my handheld light meter and using the flashes in manual mode to trying to get P-TTL working. And HSS is really only good for fill, it's not really powerful enough to overpower full sunlight by a couple of stops - if that is what you are looking to do.

Radio Poppers (radiopoppers.com) support both Nikon and Canon TTL systems, pocket wizards do Canon now and Nikon soon. I've not heard of any radio trigger that supports P-TTL, unfortunately.

But try wireless with your onboard flash. I did a shoot at a chapel in UofT and used my onboard as a controller only (did not contribute to the exposure) to fire an AF540 used to fill a mom/daughter sitting in a windowsill - the results were pretty good.

I've had this happen so many times on Craigslist it's rediculous. I simply politely write them back saying I only deal locally.

Anything I sell on Craigslist is pick up in person & pay cash. It's the only way to fly...

As of right now, the lens is still available.

I took some photos of the lens itself. The first picture is lower res and shows everything that's included, front & rear caps, hood, lens (in immaculate condition) and original box. The other three pictures are full res from my K100D, cropped a bit to just show the lens itself.
