The photo is shot just north of Nehalem Bay (between Cannon Beach and Tillamook). There are many places on the Oregon coast where the waves are long and cold. Don't know of any place where they are especially long or especially cold.

Another Oregon coast shot, near Cape Perpetua, with the Pany 45-175:

Another compact zoom to look at is the Panasonic Lumix 12-60 f3.5-5.6, which is better, optically, than the Oly 12-50 and is about the same weight and size.

I've used the KP and the DA 16-85. Balance is fine either with the largest grip or with the largest grip + battery grip.

Incidentally, the KP with the largest grip doesn't feel significantly different than, say, the K-5 or other Pentax DSLRs. I find it eminently comfortable.

Actually, I miswrote. I find the largest grip most comfortable. But the smallest is usable provided you don't try to grip the camera as you would with the largest grip. With the smallest grip, you have to grip the camera with two center fingers curled against the grip, and your thumb secured in the thumb rest. You can't grip the camera as you might with the largest grip, with your palm against the side of the camera.

I've used all three grips and find the largest by far the most comfortable. The smallest grip is okay provided I use light lenses and hold the camera with the tips of my fingers, like I hold my Olympus E-M5ii, rather than gripping with the full hand. I find the medium grip least comfortable, is it's not good for either finger or full hand grip.

Incidentally, the KP battery grip comes with the largest grip, so if you don't have the largest grip, that's one way to acquire it.

I agree. I've turned off the noise reduction in the menu on my KP and it's still pretty good up to ISO 3200. I don't have a particularly high tolerance for noise, and I won't shoot at ISO's that produce so much noise that it smudges detail. With my K-5iis I was comfortable shooting up to ISO 1600. With the KP I'm comfortable shooting up to ISO 3200. While I wouldn't suggest that the KP is a stop better than the K-5iis (or K-3), if you factor in the greater resolution, it can't be that far off from a stop. Per usual, we're talking subjective perceptual evaluation, and YMMV.
