So, you own the DA* 16-50mm f2.8?

Look, and I'll be the first to admit, I bought and still own a K100D non-super because, it was stupidly in-expensive... But, I've looked at test shot, after test shot of the Canon "L" 24-70mm f2.8 and it's nothing special. Seriously, I'd grade it worse than that but I'm being kind and trying not to get banned...

Mike

Not to be a an ***, but what "Normal" zoom by, lets say, Canon do you speak of?

"Normal", back in the day, meant 50mm. So the DA* 50-135 would an amazing "normal" to telephoto lens... But, you say WA... Wide, meaning what? On a crop sensor we need to be at say, 16mm to be "Wide"... DA* 16-50 f2.8 another "amazing" lens...

What were you looking for again? :D

Mike

Good question... This leads me to this question for the OP:

Did you upgrade to Snow Leopard? If so, the Adobe app may not be looking for the totally new version of Quicktime X that ships with 10.6.

When you install Snow Leopard, Mac OS 10.6, you have the option to install Quicktime 7 in addition to the New Quicktime X.

So, in short if you're a Snow Leopard user and have not installed Quicktime 7 [ it should be available in the "Additional Installs" folder on your SL DVD] then you should, as I bet that's what the Adobe app is looking for.

Mike

All I can say is thanks, and good luck. :D

Who made what and when in the world of lens production from 40, 50yrs ago right up to present day is so convoluted and confusing that I've become convinced we'll never know for sure.

About the *nons... One of those fast 55mm lenses was labeled Cosinon, right? And, many modern 55mm f1.2 lenses are Cosina lenses, says so right on the beauty ring. Modern Carl Ziess MF 35mm lenses are produced for Zeiss via Cosina. Cosina made lenses and 35mm SLRs for just about everyone including probably our very own Pentax.

So, I think Cosina made a lot of lenses past and present that are referred to as Tomioka. Tomioka was certainly a producer of lenses in the '50's and '60's as was Cosina and Tokina and Tamron and... well... It's dark this deep in the weeds. Like Zeiss designed lenses of way back gave rise to very similar designs by other producers, I think many so called Tomioka lenses are more inspired by Tomioka design rather than actually produced by Tomioka manufacturing.:D

Again, good luck.

Mike

Yeah, I don't know why anyone would disassemble a lens so completely. Especially, if we're just talking about a little fungus.

Just spin off the "beauty ring" remove three screws, remove front element group. Or if going through the back, just set focus so the rear lens element is sticking out the farthest and unscrew it.

I repeat, there's no reason to disassemble the lens to anywhere near the extent shown above.

That would scare me too. :D

Mike

First, you need to determine where the fungus is. If it up front? Is it out back? Then open the lens fron the end that's closest to the problem.

That link is good, but I think they go too far unnecessarily. The first part is right about unscrewing the "beauty ring" to get to the three screws that hold on that front element group. If the fungus is up front and you follow the instructions to remove the front element group, you can probably clean it and put the group back. Done.

Same if you're going in from the back. I'd only go as far as necessary. You don't need to take the mount off to get the rear elements out. They just unscrew.

Mike

Wrong, wrong, wrong! You don't want a flange type at all. The thickness of the flange, no matter how thin is what causes loss of infinity focus. The original Pentax adapter is the best and it sits down inside of the k-mount, with NO external flange at all.

Mike
