As Miguel says, do a bit of research on colour spaces if you are not familiar with the concepts, otherwise what I have written next will seem like gobbly-gook.

My first question is what IPS monitor are you using? If it is capable of displaying colours well beyond sRGB (eg the Dell 27 inch 2560 x1440 px screen), you can run into issues if working with mixed colour spaces. You could potentially be de-saturating to compensate for the screen being set to Adobe RGB colour space while working on files using/intended for sRGB colour space. You will get oversaturation of the images displayed on the screen mixing colour spaces like this, and you may be desaturating in LR to compensate and return to something visually pleasing. If you are editing JPEG's out of the camera, you could well have this problem as JPEG's are likely sRGB unless you have changed this in the camera menu. The net result when exported to another machine will be poor saturation. Check the IPS screen's menu settings to see if there is a colour space option (won't be there unless screen can do multiple colour spaces) . If there, set to sRGB and see how you get on.

Also, what are your file export settings for the edited files you send to the iPad etc? Should be sRGB for compatibility - most devices only use/interpret sRGB except for stuff intended for serious graphics work and many can't properly interpret files using non sRGB colour spaces.

All this needs to be checked through before any thought of going to the next step of monitor calibration is entertained.
