After getting fired from the Xerox new business development sales team at age 60 when the economy crashed the veteran copier salesman was interviewed by a 35 year old sales manager of a former competitor

The sales manager started with a typical interview question: “Tell me what you think is your greatest weakness.
Me: “I’m too honest.”
SM. “I don’t think honesty is a weakness.”
Me: “I don’t give a crap what you think.”

Anyone tried these grips for GRIII?

I keep my GRIII with me all the time. Even if also toting a DSLR. It essentially fills the role of a wide angle lens and still fits in the hip holster. But I put the Wide Converter on it it’s almost like carrying another compact DSLR.

Plus I have a tendency to accidentally hit the Close Up mode on the control wheel when drawing it so I already use the machined metal thumb grip. It helps a bit. Like many us here, the Wide Angle Adapter and Converter adds enough weight and bulk and physical size to negate the pocket carry-ness. So I’ve ordered one of the L grips figuring if it’s going to be bulky it might as well be easy to hold.

Heck it’s $50 and I’ma sucker gizmos and gimcracks anyway. I’ll let you know.

Took the DA*300 to Seneca Park to shoot any sport I could find and saw a couple games of Ultimate Frisbee being played. Most players of that sport are ... uh... leaner? But this guy was a warrior.

Thanks for the compliment uncle v. In the previous photo I applied a little texture smoothing. In this one, I slightly mussed my hair and averted my eyes for effect. It prevented getting the catch lights in my eyes and (I think) darkening the mood. In post I pushed the texture and clarity and dehaze sliders more to the right to accentuate the facial lines.

Two Saturdays ago my bestie was asked to live stream a customer getting a haircut to promote a new barber shop and I volunteered. Part of my motivation was one of my lady friends had asked if I was intentionally going for a mountainman look. I replied, ďNo... I want to look like a Radical Leftist. You know, a Democrat.Ē The other motivator is it would be FREE.

Due to Covid rules the barber could not trim up 7 months of unrestricted beard growth. So I ordered a beard trimmer and put it to use this past Saturday.

The before photo: cell phone shot in my office while I was over caffeinated and on a sugar high.

The after photo: This is the same living room set up with the closed pocket doors in the background. Again using a Lume Cube Pro and Lume Cube Mini. I havenít gotten around to rigging a backdrop holder. But I shot earlier in the day so the light from a window acted somewhat as a hair light. My glasses are crooked but next time Iíll be aware to check for that.

A friend commented that I look like a famous author in the after photo but I attribute that to the turtleneck. Everyone looks like an author or a poet in a turtleneck.

I’ve been intimidated by the firmware update process myself. All I have is an iPad Pro 2 and I’m not too adept at using that except for LR, emails and basic internet use.

I will be buying the K3iii in March of 2021. My main camera is my K3ii anyway. Iíve used the K70 flip screen more since the pandemic restrictions for some macro and a bunch of self-portraits. I just have be aware of the aperture block issue. Not much of a big worry since I havenít done any event shoots this year. If required the K3ii w/ the delightful DA* 50-135 and my GRIII would cover me.

Do I really need a KP? UPDATE

I’m growing impatient for the K-New as well. My K70 is starting to experience aperture block failure and the memory card no longer locks in place and I also have a K3II that’s my main camera.

I’ve mentally prepared to spend up $1800 for the K-New on one hand but on the other, a buying a KP leaves more than a grand left for a pretty nice lens.

I keep telling myself, “Patience, no rush, resist temptation.” And you guys aren’t helping.

Darn it. I have an Amazon Prime VISA and a couple things here are really tempting, K1 mk2 or the DFA 15-30 zoom but I wish I knew The specs of the K-New. I just bought a DA* 50-135 last month (because Adam linked to hot deal) as an additional investment in APS-C tech figuring Iíd go to the K-New next.

BTW, the DA*50-135 a wonderful lens.

I have two yellow Q7 bodies, one with the matching yellow 02 standard zoom. I also have all the lenses except the two “toy” lenses including the Lens Shield and Q/K converter. And I have a Ricoh GRIII.

Since acquiring the GRIII and to a lesser extent the Ricoh WG6 as my discrete/pocket cameras the Q7s seldom see the light anymore. In fact, I’ve already photographed one body and standard zoom lens with the wide-angle zoom and telephoto zoom in preparation for putting a 3 zoom Q7 kit for sale in the market place. I just haven’t overcome my personal inertia to write up the post. I’m figuring I’d keep one body, the prime, the fisheye, the lens shield and Q/K converter for their unusual optical attributes.

Buying a GRIII is one of the best decisions Iíve made since my return to photography. Itís always with me and in these times of semi-isolation when my subject is mostly my dog and myself, it keeps me engaged in the hobby when a larger DSLR would be an encumbrance much of the time.

Favorite setting: Hard mono + highlight metering. In LR I frequently weather and leather myself by pushing the Texture, Clarity and Dehaze sliders to the right. A lot to the right.

If the final specs are that outstanding Iíd go $1600 in a heartbeat. My K70 (Back up body to K3II) is having some issues that may get worse. Above that Iíd have to think a little harder about it.

I shoulda sprung for the $200+ up charge for the KP when I bought the K70.

I am so impressed with DA* and Ltd lens I’ve purchased, especially the DA* 50-135, I ordered up a DA* 11-18 F2.8 despite owning a Sigma 8-16. It arrived yesterday. Since I ordered it from Amazon I do have a 30 window to return it. Thus I’ll be doing direct comparison shoot offs over the next week or so.

Considering reducing the total quantity of my lens arsenal to fund upgrading.

Two lenses enter. One stays and one is banished from the kingdom ... er ... collection.

Iíve just become aware of this issue as Iím starting to get a grossly underexposed image or two when I first start shooting with my K70. At first I thought it was a operator error. Ive not had a chance to double check for this but will do so this weekend. Itís not under warranty. Maybe itís telling me a K-New is in my future. NOTE: I still have my K3II and GRIII.

With my usual Summer/autumn photography events cancelled by the pandemic and my wariness toward going the other places I used to go to photograph people. I’ve been doing dog/photo walk photography where I can maintain an average social distance of many yards. I quit covering the Breonna Taylor protests after 23 days, too many wearing masks when walking in silence and pulling them down to their chin when yelling.

But I decided to get my Lume Cube Go Panel and Lume Cube mini-panel for an indoor selfie session. K70 for the flippy screen, 20-40mm Ltd.

Here’s a couple in color and a highly dramatized in post monochrome. Next time I’ll jury rig a backdrop stand and hair light.

The Louisville Courier Journal was doing a feature article on the #502livestreamers, an ad hoc group of independent journalists covering the Breonna Taylor protests since day 1, and scheduled a major photo shoot near a downtown building sized mural.

My bestie, Tara Bassett (not pictured) asked me to shoot the shooting of that shoot without interfering with the two(2) professional photographers and the truck load of lights and umbrellas they brought. The best way to do that was use 55-300PLM to pick up the scraps that the pros were leaving me.

Hereís five of the 8 502s
