SPIDERS - BE AFRAID! "They" will get you, wherever you are!

SWMBO is "S*** S***ed" of spiders and so I have to get rid of them - but generally by gently capturing them, and then releasing them outside the house (often a "long drop" from the toilet window:lol:)

Personally: I don't have a major problem with spiders - there's one that, from year to year, seems to keep our conservatory free of flying bugs over Winter :D

OTOH: not the same for the garage which used to get webs everywhere over Winter - but not since I started lighting "bug candles" in there in late September ;)

NOBODY is belittling those with "issues" like LBA and OCD (my stepson has the latter) because they have a real "attraction" to a specific "activity" - from what I've seen/read those "conditions" are sometimes just an obsession, but can be a symptom of some form of autism. OTOH, diagnosed-autistic people often seem to show strong determination to "succeed and achieve" in the field to which they are drawn - thus it would seem that such folk really do sometimes "reach the heights" in those fields :D

How many lenses do you take when out photographing?

"Days out" and holidays = K-70 + 10-20 Sigma, 17-70 Sigma and sometimes the 55-300 PLM
Airshows and the like = K3, K3 II + 17-70 Sigma, 100-300 F4 Sigma, 70-200 F2.8 Sigma plus the Sigma 1.4x TC, and occasionally the 10-20 Sigma if there's likely to be some sort of of aviation museum (etc.)
Hiking - I just can't do that because my very dodgy knee makes walking any distance very difficult/painful:(

Actually, given that the majority of the reviews of "add-on" telephoto lenses for smart phones show how bad they are, then maybe one from a respected camera lens manufacturer might just be a very good idea - albeit that the price would be "a little higher" than for the junk already on the market.

Get a worm-drive clip (We call them "Jubilee clips" for some reason) that will fit around the lens barrel where it is cracked, and some superglue - carefully "paint" a little of the latter along the length of the crack, wipe the excess off very quickly, and then carefully tighten the clip around the crack and wait a few minutes.

That should hopefully "sort" the problem for at least a reasonable period.

Another approach might be to try a PVC cement (think of the stuff used for joining outdoor rainwater pipes, at least in the UK) and the same methodology - but it could be a lot more messy!

Iosafe looks good but "overkill" for me!

Another difficult one to "solve" on a site where you have only one incoming 230V single-phase supply, but no standby genny or large capacity UPS (many of which can kick out a lot of EMI anyway) - guess I'll have to pass on that as well;)

I agree but it often not easy for "home users" - certainly, in my case, I don't have anyone/anywhere "really off-site" to use in that manner - so have had to compromise and locate the "off-site" element in my detached garage about 40ft from the house, and with a PLC link between it and the house LAN.

That worked fine until a few weeks ago when BOTH NAS-based backup systems went "wrong" and wouldn't recognise the attached USB storage boxes, but I haven't actually lost any data or photos due the at-least duplicated/triplicated nature of the storage drives - now, in the hopefully "final" stages of fixing those issues.

My photos are backed-up in "compressed" form via Acronis True Image on USB drives attached to 2 separate NAS boxes, and also in "uncompressed" form on 2 other USB drives on the same 2x NAS - as well on the 2x RAID-configured internal drives on one of those NAS, and on a separate USB drive attached to the laptop!! Probably could "do better" but can't afford that!

And all the shots are readable because I've tried !! :D

Protector Filter vs UV Filter

@BMC (AKA Mike)

So would you really have expected that shot to really have shown less flare around the light source if you had not had that filter fitted, and if so, by "how much"?
PS: and what filter was actually fitted on that occasion?
PPS: a little post-processing work could probably have removed most of that flaring, given that it was closely associated with a very localised light source.

Tiffen "protectors" may be uncoated, but the "better" versions from mfrs like B&W and Hoya etc., are sold as definitely having some form of multicoating applied (Otherwise I would not have bought them).

Interesting - but NOT surprising :(

Your experience REALLY SHOULD read by the many people who seem to want to store their images that way and so buy

BTW: to the Mods: maybe this thread, and any subsequent posts in it, should be made a Sticky as a "Warning" to anyone else who is using, or wants to use, that method of storing their images!

A new pair of glasses......

Bit different to you - I get my eyes very carefully checked every year and change my glasses roughly every two years as a result because I know how dangerous it can be to drive with defective vision!

As for using bifocals V varifocals with DSLRs? I think it will depend on how "bad" your sight is, and what the defects are?

For me (with quite strong "short sight" and very significant astigmatism in the Right eye), my bifocals work well with both the K-3's and the K-70 because they allow me to use the most appropriate part of the lenses for the V/F and for both the the top and rear screens.

OTOH, the medium-to-far distance varifocals are more comfortable in most situations, but it is more difficult to use see the top and rear screens clearly - and so I sometimes even take the glasses off!

Many very old digital cameras will only recognise similar generation, and low capacity, cards - so, maybe there's a "select" marketplace for those?

Someone should pass that link on to Pramath so he can check if it really does fit the MZ-S - and if it does then that should ensure that he can repair many more in the future.

I suggest you try Asahi Photo in Brentford - they certainly used to work on MZ-series cameras as they repaired my MZ-5N many years ago.

HOWEVER, don't use the Contact link on their website (they rarely seem to monitor it and to reply) but phone them (02082328111) and I think Pramath is the person to whom you should try to speak.

My latest "acquisition" seems to be "someone" who has hacked and hijacked my ISP's (virginmedia.com!) Primary a/c that I use to manage quite a number of Secondary a/c's - now waiting to see IF AND WHEN virginmedia's IT guys can sort it. ATM I can't even access that Primary a/c :(

In the meantime, that's costing me mucho time, stress and "agro" in changing lots of other website a/c's to use non-virginmedia addresses!. Done the major "financially sensitive" ones so far (took most of today!) but looks like many more to go (including SWMBO's accounts which for which she uses a virginmedia email address) :(
