The DFA* 1.4/50mm on my K-3 III appears to function very well (but admittedly I haven't tested it on moving subjects), it has a KAF4-mount and an SDM-motor.

These are Voigtländer Kontur finders, a very clever concept, one eye views through (or better: at) the finder, which is a black box with lines, and the other eye remains open to supplement the real world to what the eyes see.
It is explained here: Voigtlander Kontur Finder | The Obscure Camera Blog

It only works for framing, not for focussing. But I find it immensely helpful.

One is 6x6 (on the Isolette), one 24x36mm for 135 cameras, and one 6x9cm. They are not for the Agfa camera.
I had reckoned that the latter two would be identical (in ratio), but that's not correct. Anyway, my Telka does not have a cold shoe, so I cannot use either on that camera. I once intended to buy a Bessa II but I've got enough cameras as things are.

Yes, all of them are in relatively good shape, except for the mirror/screen of the Superb. It seems no repairperson wants to tackle that unless for an astronomical costs (I've been quoted € 400 basic price, not including unforeseen things that may be encountered...).
I've decided I'm going to try myself, but starting on other cameras first to build up some experience. Long term project.

I find it very nice in rendering. The film transport requires some manual: when replacing a film, the camera should not be closed until the new film is loaded. When you accidentally do, you must follow certain steps to avoid mishap. In practice, it works well now that I know.
I replaced the original screen, which made an enormous difference.

Prices have gone up, although that's eBay: it seems sellers are creating higher and higher thresholds artificially for some cameras.
Of course I sold my Contax G1s just before the price tripled...

My three amigos, equally beloved: Voigtländer Superb with Heliar, Rolleiflex 2.8C with Schneider Kreuznach, MPP Microflex with Micronar.
And two folders, the Agfa Super Isolette and the DeMaria LaPierre Telka III.

Yes, I agree on both counts. I use the DFA* 50 myself on the K-3 III, although I wonder how many people do. But the fast AF and IQ are certainly worth it. The system isn't small any longer though ;)
Filling out the FF line is probably a higher priority - especially when a K-1 III emerges.

Those are not new optical designs. And the answer is 2013, so they're not too recent anyway.

That said, the last new DA prime lens was launched in 2012 and was the fantastic plastic 1.8/50mm. Quite a few DA primes could do with some sort of an upgrade or WR.

It's easier with a viewfinder than LCD screen on GR ...

The answer you might have expected: it depends on your style, presumably. Your experience was the reason I returned my GR iii, despite its excellent image quality. I'm not sure whether an optical VF would help: it would not have any visual affirmation but when relying on the camera's abilities it might still work.
The Fuji cameras with hybrid viewfinder could help out but they are considerably larger of course.
I had a similar issue with the Sigma DP cameras. But I also remember to have had a Rollei 8Mp camera in 2005 or so where I did use the LCD screen and had no issues with it.
These days, when I want to go light I bring a TLR... just the way it pans out. I'm trying to convince myself of a light set-up with K-3 iii and one, two or three lenses, but so far the TLR still wins.

It is a great place. I have more use for a normal wide angle, even ultra wide-angle, than I used to have around here. All these buildings, the harbours. But a fairly normal view, or short tele, remain my favourites. Mostly still on film though, I need to get stuff developed - or create my own dark room.

My 20-40mm from Amazon was lost in transit - I was refunded, but didn't find another deal similar to it.
Instead I fell for the DFA* 1.4/50mm - which I'll use, for now, as a portrait/short tele. At € 719 for a near mint lens it's not a bad deal.

3: Canon (363 votes)
4: OM System (346 votes)

6: Fujifilm (297 votes)

Thanks for this reference, I didn't know his work - but it's exactly what I like.
When I walk around with a TLR, I rarely feel limited in FL. When I get my K-3 iii out, I agonise about the lenses to take with me ;)

Yes, the Foveon sensors (in the DP2 and 3 Merrill) are neither good in low light nor with a high DR, but when they shine they shine if not radiate (metaphoric breakdown warning).
The sharpness seemed to be due to the sensor, not the software I'd guess. Especially with texture. Portraits had to be blurred somewhat in PP.
Noise was not a forte. And the software was a pain indeed. The back screen could be hard to see in bright daylight while there was no EVF.

But that's not the K-lens “with its 18 blades to some K lenses (50/1.4, 135/2.5)” but if you meant the 18 blades to apply only to the 200mm lens, it makes sense indeed, but I read your sentence differently. Nice to know this, thanks. I just checked how many my Tele-Takumar 5.6/200mm has, and it's 10 blades. Not 18 like yours, but still not bad.
On a side-note, my Rolleiflex TLR 2.8C also has 10 aperture blades, something apparently not widely known. Later models, starting with the 2.8D only had 5, certainly the Zeiss lenses (mine is a Xenotar; I'm not entirely sure about the Xenotar later models though).
But that's medium format. For large format, the Schneider Xenar 3.5/240 had 30 blades I hear.

What do you see through the viewfinder? Such a small aperture, it must be challenging to see anything, but I've never used one on a DSLR.

Thanks for the suggestion. Did anyone use the other Thingyfy lenses on Pentax?

With long exposures PS may have unexpected results unless everything is deadpan still in the frame. Even then I wonder whether it would be sharper. Perhaps it would still be interesting though, I can't tell.
Initially I thought the small sensor size made it uninteresting. I've seen really beautiful work with large format pinhole, 4x5 or 8x10.
Here's a pinhole picture with a modified Agfa Isola 6x6:

Much better work is displayed here: https://fujilove.com/pinhole-photography-with-the-fujifilm-x-t1/

Debate and decide- FA 31 Limited or DA 20-40 Limited?

I am almost certain now that the wrong lens cap was included (albeit in the right box) because it leaves large gaps between the cut out sections of the hood and the cap, it just can't be right.
It could well be the hood for the 20-40mm Limited—it is a limited hood in any case.
Too much trouble to send it back and have the right one sent to me, and in any case, this cap nicely fits my Voigtländer Nokton 1.4/58mm lens hood.
I'll order a replacement from Ricoh EU - but they're out of stock right now.

Apologies for riding along with my own questions on your original one about the 31mm vs the 20-40mm. It just happened to strike a chord with me. But I cannot yet answer your question... although I would be inclined to keep both, but then I like to shoot wide open (31mm), and have WR (20-40mm).

It is used, but still a good price. The 31mm was used as well but looks absolutely fine. I will have to see if images come out the way its looks suggest of course. I did check for fungus and scratches but found none. It's just in so I haven't been able to do much. It's black - my K-3 III is silver - but you can't have it all.

This is going to be a very nice lightweight combo: 15/21/31/58 or 20-40/58. Still with the 43/85/135 on reserve. But I don't like too much choice, I'm used to FF 28/50/85, of which the first is approximated by 15/21 (23/32 eq.). It has the advantage of knowing your perspective to use a limited set of FLs.

(And if I ever go for the K-1 III, I'l still have the 31/43 plus M 20 and M85, so I'm all set.)

---------- Post added 03-23-2022 at 01:56 PM ----------

One thing I wasn't aware of: the lens cap of the 31mm doesn't fit over the lens hood... very odd. I always have lens hoods mounted. The seller had a third-party lens cap included as well, fortunately, but it doesn't look so nice. I'm using a Voigtländer cap for now.

I found a copy going for € 409, low enough to make me try the 20-40mm... the 31mm just arrived and looks in pristine order. I'm well within budget with these two lenses. Let the weekend arrive so I can test them.

I didn't know about this feature, but may well have good use for it. I'm not quite sure how the composite average works, but the composite interval is easily customisable. Great tip! I'm bound to try and use this in coming weeks!
It just shows how desirable a good manual / eBook is.

Which I feared... It is just a difficult choice, in part because I cannot try either locally, to see how they feel in the hand. That's what underpins my question.
I tried to make a large lens heavier by attaching batteries to it (don't ask) but you can't replicate this easily. I have lenses that are heavier for my Rolleiflex 6008, but then that body feels and holds very differently, too (rather good in fact: the weight is more of an issue on my shoulder than in my hands).
Thanks all for responding. I'm somehow hoping some deal comes my way and will help settle the matter ;)

---------- Post added 03-22-2022 at 06:03 AM ----------

Indeed... I'm not into absolute sharpness, but the 20-40 got quite a bit of criticism on the Forum review at the 40mm end, which is significant for a small range zoom.
The 16-50 would be a one-lens solution for rainy days. It's not quite Seattle over here, but neither is it Dubai...

---------- Post added 03-22-2022 at 06:05 AM ----------

Well, I'm torn between both... one may be much cheaper, but if I feel it doesn't live up to its price, it's money spent.
