i had a takumar 200/3.5 preset that was soon deliciously smooth. then it was stolen. i seriously still cry about that. this lens, at 3.5 and 200mm reminds me muchly of that lens.

I can usually manage to pay for what I buy with what I earn shooting but I went a little overboard this year. :/
The K1 will happen but probably not until summer. That is if they meet their projected release date. I usually keep three working bodies and two have needed replacing. I replaced one and I'll replace the next one with the K1.

Just a quick snap in the backyard. ISO400, 200mm, f/3.2, 1/500sec, at as close as the lens will let me get then cropped.
and there are trees, TREES! in the background. Can you see them? No. I love this takumar-esqe bokeh it delivers.
(and it's getting a tad dim outside)

Adorama. They had a markdown on it before it was even out so i grabbed it then. Right before it shipped I received notice that it was going for even less than that.

I ordered this about a year ago and it came today. Finally. Anyone else get theirs? So far, holy smokes. This is a nice piece of glass. Worth coming out of forum hibernation for. I have been shooting a Sigma of the same ilk but it is soft at the far end. The Pentax version so far looks razor sharp at 200. It is indeed a happy happy day.

New beep sound when shutter trips

You're seriously calling me an idiot? Wow. Awesome.

---------- Post added 08-13-14 at 07:16 PM ----------

So the lens seems to be clearing up. I shot it a lot on a hike today and I'll be looking closely at the shots shortly here. There just seems to be a spot inside the front element left (the lens was sent in for repair about a year ago so it's probably not as weather sealed as it was).

As for the camera and it's annoying bloop sound, I updated the firmware and it went away for a while then started back up. Which lens I'm using is irrelevant. It's annoying because I shoot live performances (ballet and theatre) and more sounds is not good. However I was assured by my hiking companions that they couldn't hear it. It just seems loud to me because it's right at my face.

Okay and now I just checked the AA filter and we have a winner! Sweet. It was on. Probably inadvertly turned on while randomly and absently fiddling with buttons while riding in the car. Thanks so much for the awesome advice!

New beep sound when shutter trips

I had my K3 and da*16-50 out for a weather sealing "test event" (jet boat ride up a river with a completely insane driver) and things got pretty wet in spite of my best efforts. Now my k3 is making a new beep when the shutter trips. It beeps normally with the focus lock, but now there's a new computery sounding beep thing when I press the shutter as well (lower in pitch than the focus lock beep). it sounds like it's coming from inside the body of the camera. Anyone else notice any new weird sounds in theirs? (btw, I think the 16-50 is now toast, it fogged up and now has some gunk inside the front element).

I know! I've been working working working. Between my job and my freelancing I just haven't had time to hang out here much. I'm wiped out by the end of the day. But I have to say, staying away has seriously curbed the LBA. I popped on to look at some sample from a lens I'm considering.

I haven't been on here much in the past forever due to a pesky full time job and photo clients keeping my busy while not on the job. But here are some from one of my clients, a professional performance ballet company. All images are shot during either the final full tech dress rehearsal or live performance. None are posed.

I don't get much time to shoot for fun anymore . . .
and I hope these show because it's all different since I posted here last.

and in closing, the Nutcracker shot that's absolutely required. Okay so it's not very sharp. But whatever. I caught them mid-leap so i'll go with it :)

Thanks. It's not posed but shot during the production, final tech dress rehearsal, day before opening night, full stage lighting, live musicians, the works. The dancers were actually in motion.

Jump in camera-assigned image numbers

Honestly I don't remember. I was shooting a live theatre production. I did change cards at one point and considered that but based on the images, I don't think that was the point in the production where it happened. This is judging by the scenes. The lower number image, action wise, was immediately before the higher number one (not a delay of an apparent few seconds/minute that it would take to change out the card).

My K-5 did something weird. Mid-shoot, the file/image numbers jumped ahead by about 2700 (some odd number, not at that computer at the moment). All of my images are there, nothing seems to be missing, just the numbers jumped forward by a bunch. Anyone else have this happen? Should I be worried?

Because it's not actually being released yet? Because it's a proto-type being tested? Not saying this is what was happening but these are reasons it COULD happen. All that is known is what was seen and that is what was seen. And when it was noticed that it was being noticed, it was squirreled away.

It's only hard-core Pentax nerds like us that would even notice that it looked different than currently-out models. :)

Maybe. Except Fuji doesn't end with an X. There was a logo on the camera. And it ended with X.

It was posted by me on P3 because I am one of the editors of the publication. The other editor/owner, Brendan, is at at the show and called me on the phone right after seeing it and told me about it. I then posted my blurb on P3. It was later that I mentioned it in this thread. As you can see, there is a link to P3 in my signature line. Brendan posted his sighting to our Twitter feed first. I followed suit on P3. Full disclosure and all.

Oh and I've been an editor there longer than a mod here if that matters to anyone.

LOL! Sorry!! Just reportin' what I was told! Seriously though, when he tried to get a closer look the person holding it moved it behind his back. Brendan was going to see if he could get a good look at it but they're definitely being discreet with whatever it was. But he did emphasize it's rugged appearance.

Tease tease tease. Really I know nothing. Just reports of glimpses and peeks.

BrendanPK is there providing live coverage for our news site and just reported spotting something at the Pentax booth that was quickly hidden behind a back. It looked rugged and mirrorless maybe and might have been sporting what looked to be a kmout pancake or limited lens. There was no viewfinder.

Just a little something to fan the rumor flames. I just got off the phone with him. NOTHING however, is substantiated. Could be a different brand? Maybe a Ricoh? Nothing is known, he just got a quick glimpse of it is all.
