We took a trip to the Biltmore House in Asheville, NC this weekend. Since the photo rules were no flash in the house itself I took my K1 with a Sigma 28-75 f/2.8 lens and carried my Pentax 50mm f/1.4. Many of the rooms were pretty dark so I was pleased with the high ISO performance. This one was of the library at f/2.8, 1/80th, and ISO 6400.

This was with the Pentax 50mm at f/2.2, 1/125th, and ISO 4000.

Outside shots were a bit easier.

And finally, part of the Chihuly at Biltmore art exhibit.

Our tennis team hosted a playoff game this afternoon and did well only dropping a handful of games throughout the match. I shot with my K1 and Bigma lens since there was plenty of light.

The weather finally warmed up a but and felt more like spring this week. Our girls' soccer team had a big match Thursday at home. They have never beaten this team and lost 2-0 on their field a few weeks back. There was plenty of light so I pulled out the Bigma to use with my K1.

I did manage to get a shot of the first goal.

We went on to win the match 4-2.

I shot multiple sports this week using my K1 and my Sigma 70-200 lens. Wednesday I shot a track meet. Here are three shots from the high jump. (Two different jumps from different angles.

I've been considering it for several months and finally bit the bullet and purchased a K-1 from Adorama with the grip. It arrived Tuesday and Wednesday night I got my first chance to try it out at a wrestling match at school. I was pleased with how well it worked with my Sigma 70-200 f/2.8. It will take some time to get used to the different locations of buttons compared to the K3. Here were some of my favorite shots:

I took some photos of our high school marching band this afternoon in an exhibition. All with the K3 and either a Sigma 70-200 f/2/8 or Tamron 28-75 f/2.8.

The hummingbirds have been very active around the feeders the past couple of weeks. I've had three or four at a time at both feeders and decided to get some shots. Here are some favorites.

Sharing a drink.

Playing.

Posing...

This was my favorite shot as he hovered near the feeder. I used my K3 with a Sigma 18-250 lens and AF540 flash.

The nice thing about our Junior Varsity Football games is that they start earlier so there is plenty of sunlight. Here are a few shots from last Thursday night.

I took an old UV filter for my Bigma and purchased solar filter film and sugru to make a solar filter for the Bigma. At totality I switched to my Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 for some shots and then got a few with the Bigma without the filter. Here are some favorite shots.

Eatting the sunspots

Diamond Ring effect just as totality is about to occur.

Nearly done.

Thanks for looking. If you are interested, click on any of the photos to see the gallery will more shots. It was an awesome experience.

We enjoyed the Birds of Prey show at Callaway Gardens. At one point this Barred Owl flew past me with his wing brushing my face.

This Harris's Hawk was fun to watch in flight.

We hadn't planned on going to Callaway so I only had my K3 with a Sigma 18-250 lens. I wish I had taken my SIgma 70-200 f/2.8.

I purchased a Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 lens in the Marketplace and got it in today. I took it tonight while shooting basketball. I used it on my K3 for a girls' game (and used my Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 on my K5iis) and then switched the lenses for the boys' game and used the 28-70 on my K5iis.

I have owned the Tamron as well and it did a good job. The Sigma is quieter and I shoot a good bit with it shooting plays and such in an auditorium so need the quiet focus. Bth the Tamron and Sigma work well for sports.

I shot another basketball game this afternoon. It was nice to have a little more light available since it was later afternoon and there are windows at the top of the gym. All using a Sigma 70-200 f/2.8.
