Item Description
I'm changing systems, I will probably regret it, but I need to explore other options, so Im selling every piece of Pentax Equipment I have. I have a nice collection of lenses, flashes, and a Pentax K-5 Body. Would be great to sell as a whole. If someone wants to buy all of it, I'll knock off a hefty discount.

Here we go :

Pentax K-5 - $700 , LOW shutter count, barely 4 months old. It comes with the box, FOUR batteries, FOUR chargers, Battery grip, and leather hand grip. I will also throw in a free Metz 36 AF-5 flash w/ diffuser. Its a basic P-TTL auto flash, no manual controls. it tilts & scopes out. I paid $90 for it on another site.Attachment 142758 Attachment 142759

Pentax 50-135 f/2.8 DA* - $700 SOLD
Like new condition, comes with box, bag, both caps, and SIX AND A HALF YEAR Mack warranty from Adorama. This lens was originally purchased in March of 2012, purchased with 7 year warranty. I will call and transfer warranty in new owners name. Attachment 142760 Attachment 142761

Rokinon 8mm f/3.5 fisheye - $250 SOLD
Seriously, like NEW... I just bought this thing like 2 weeks ago. Still have the box and everything. Its a fun lens, Ive taken some nice shots with it. Attachment 142762

Pentax 80-320 f/4.5-5.6 - $50
I just bought this thing from KEH for $100. I shot a football game & Renaissance Festival. It is a nice sharp lens even wide open. It truly is under rated. If you buy this lens. Ill throw in a super albinar 2x tele converter. Attachment 142763 Attachment 142764

Sigma 28-105 f/2.8-4.0 Aspherical - $50
This lens seriously is so under rated. I shot an entire engagement photo session with this and one light stand, and it produced really sharp, great pictures. Its hard to find photo samples on it. I will post one of my favorites from my shoot on this listing. Attachment 142765 Attachment 142766

Sigma 610 DG Super Flash - $175
Awesome manual flash, it tilts, zooms, rotates. It can be shot wireless via a trigger, or using the camera flash as a trigger. I believe its the most powerful flash you can get for pentax. The only one comparable would be the metz 58. Comes with box & carrying bag. Attachment 142767

All together, this amounts to $1,975. If anyone buys it all together, to make this as easy and painless as possible, I will let it all go for $1,800.

**** I can NOT start shipping any of this stuff until the 28th ! I'm sorry, I have a wedding to shoot on the 27th. Thats why I priced everything so low. Im giving discounts for the inconvenience. Everything is priced dirt cheap, compared to anywhere else you can buy these items.**** PM me if interestred.

I tried center focus, 5 point & 11 point. I dont doubt that some of my shots were just simply out of focus. But there were a few that I know for a fact were spot on, and the camera still focused on the background. One particular was a center focus shot, I had the red dot smack dab in the middle of the quarterback's chest, and it still back focused.

Which way to the left or right do I need to adjust my autofocus to fix back focusing !? I've got 11 points on, continuous focus, and over half of my pics are back focused. I tried 5 points and it does the same thing. I know how to fine tune my AF settings, but do I go left or right w/ it to fix back focusing ? Need help ASAP

Yeah, that was my thoughts originally. But my wife is supportive of my photography hobby, and the expendable income is there, so I said to heck with it, I'm just gonna buy it.

Thoughts on K-5 II

Very well written, and informative thread. I enjoyed reading it. I gotta admit, I've been flirting with the Nikon side of the world for a couple months now. I'm just afraid to make the leap, bc of hopes that the new AF system in the IIs is improved enough to close the gap between the D7000 & the K5. If its not, then I've already got my eye on a D7000. I know a pro photographer that travels with the rodeo circuit and he produces simply amazing photos with a D7000 & a 70-200 f/2.8 .

Crap... I need to call B & H I guess when it gets closer. I was planning on putting my pre order in on the 5th. I'm out if town till the 4th and can't meet the guy to sell my K-5 till then. If they're going to be back ordered, I better hang onto my k5 until after the 27th :-/

You mean they may not ship till November ? I surely hope not. Not only for my lack of patience , but I have a very important event scheduled on the 27th that I am shooting. I guess if worse came to worst, I'll have to rent a K-5. Because I will be without a body from 10/12 till whenever my K-5 2-S comes in the mail.

Well. I already have my K-5 sold, and now I'm just playing the waiting game. I literally daydream about how sharp the 2-S is going to be with my 50-135. I will probably have to wear Thick leather gloves when using it, so I don't chop a finger off. It's probably going to cut a hole in the bottom of my camera bag. Ok, I'm slightly exaggerating, but C'MON... How can you not be excited about this camera ? I feel like a kid waiting on Christmas. Anybody else getting antsy ?

Pentax 80-320... Why am I just now discovering this Beauty ?

I picked one up on KEH for $84. I just wanted a cheap long zoom for Day time sport games, family stuff, etc. found this on the Pentax forum lens review section. I haven't received it yet, but I'm BLOWN AWAY by the photo samples on Flickr and PBase. I'm not saying its better than the more expensive lenses on the market, not by any stretch of the imagination. But holy cow, there are some great shots taken with this cheap lens. Why don't more people use this thing ? P.S. I got the silver one, I think it's going to look weird, in a very cool way on my K-5. I'm shooting a couple little league football games next Saturday, I'll post some pictures. But if anyone is in the same boat I was in, and you're hunting for a cheap AF long zoom, go give this thing a look. I'm glad I did. I haven't received it in the mail yet, but if my results are anywhere near the samples I'm seeing, then this may be the best $84 I've ever spent.

77 limited... Greatest prime ever made ?

I read an article online today that compared a bunch of prime lenses, and to make a long story short, the end conclusion was him saying the 77 limited was the greatest prime lens EVER. Not just Pentax, but all manufacturers. (forgive me for not having the link readily available to share. It's extremely deep in my web history.) I wish I was more of a prime shooter, and could actually justify the $800 for this lens, just to try it out. I guess I'm just lazy, but I love my zooms. I tried liking prime lenses, but it was an inconvenience to have to swap lenses so much. I had the FA 50 f/1.4 , mitakon 85 f/2.0 , and Tamron 90 f/2.8 di sp macro. I've since sold every one of them. I know some people who swear by primes and that's all they prefer to shoot. I wish I had the discipline for a prime lens. The 77 limited is really tempting me to give primes another chance. Any body been in this situation before ? How did you handle it ? Any 77 owners out there that care to help me in either direction ? To buy or not to buy ? I'd hate to spend $800 on a lens and it merely collect dust in my bag. Thanks in advance for all your input & advice.

Best Place to Pre-Order the K-5 iiS ?

I sold my K-5, will probably be shipping it out in a week or two. I need to pre-Order the K-5 iiS. Does anyone have any solid info on when the camera is being released for sure ? I've heard 10/15. But I'm curious If that's the date Pentax ships out to the vendors , or will they get them ahead of time, and be able to ship to customers on the 15th ? I have some pretty important shoots scheduled the end of the month, and without a camera body, I'm up the creek without a paddle. I could rent one, but that's an expensive last resort. Has anyone pre-ordered with B&H, Adorama, or Pentax before ? What was your experience like ? Speedy processing ? I'm also weary of the K-5 iiS being on back order for some reason. I guess that's the pessimist in me coming out. I'll wrap this up. Any input or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you !

where is the best place to pre-order the K-5 IIs , and know that it will be delivered quickly ? I already have my K-5 sold, and cant risk being without a body for too long. Will B&H start shipping on the 15th, or do they have to wait a few days to actually receive the products from Pentax ? I know this is all stuff you might not be able to answer, I was just curious if anyone had any past experience with pre-ordering a pentax ?

I finally ended up getting a 50-135. Ive been eyeballing that lens for a while. The samples on pixel peeper.com are just jaw dropping. My main purpose for it will be portraits, but Im going to give it a try at sports photography also. I sold a sigma 70-200 f/2.8 hsm macro II , and got the 50-135. Im working out of town, and wont be home to play with my new toy for a couple weeks. Can any current owners of this lens give me an idea of what ive gotten myself into ? What has been your experience with using it for sports or action shots ? I just went through my lightroom library , looking at the data on some shots I took at a football game recently with the sigma 70-200, Most of my best shots were between 110-155 mm. most of my 180-200mm shots seemed much softer, so Im thinking and hoping that the 50-135 will be able to perform about as well, and of course I can crop to zoom if needed. Any thoughts, or input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. The two pictures I posted are from the 70-200 , the first one was at 155 mm, and the 2nd was 105 mm . I know the 155 is out of range for the 50-135, but I think with enough cropping, i can get close to that.

wow, I try to make amends on this thread, and almost immediately get 2 people criticizing my photography ability. how and why did that even come into play ? Im not shooting your wedding, or anyone you know, so what difference does it make to either of you ? I dont see how my ability is relevant to anything. Because I havent been shooting for years, im not allowed to shoot formal events ? Everybody started somewhere, right ?

pentax 80-320 vs Pentax 100-300

Thanks Alan, I ended up just getting the 80-320. I saw an AMAZING set on Flickr that a guy in the Philippines posted. Simply jaw dropping. So I figured for $84, it was worth a try. The Pentax forum lens review had it listed as 8.4 out of a possible 10 for sharpness, so that should be fine for my needs. I just wanted something cheap with good range. I have the Pentax 50-135 for portrait work, after selling my Sigma 70-200, and was left with nothing w/ any type of significant reach. So I think this 80-320 fills that void. Until I want to start shooting low light & need that sigma 300 f/2.8. Ha ha ! Thank you for your reply. I also read about that lens failure you mentioned. I picked up the Silver version of this lens, and the few articles I read about it, said the silver model wasn't known for having those issues nearly as bad as the black model. So hopefully I'll be ok.

- I'm going to make a heartfelt apology to this thread, and hopefully clear the air, and put this topic to rest. I love my K-5. It's an amazing piece of machinery. I don't even know why I posted this thread , and wish I hadnt. I'm still trying to find my niche as a photographer, and make up my mind on what area I need to focus more on. I am doing more portraits now, and weddings than anything. Shortly before posting this thread, I shot 3 football games and REALLY enjoyed it. So it had me thinking about just hanging up the portrait stuff and doing nothing but sports and long range stuff. So I started investigating fast long range lenses. I almost immediately stumbled across the 120-300 sigma. I was upset it wasn't available for Pentax, but it still didn't warrant me making this thread. After careful consideration, I set up a gameplan for myself and I've acted accordingly. I'm sticking with portrait work and weddings. I did sell off my sigma 70-200 2.8, and bought the 50-135. In a couple weeks I'll get the matching 16-50. Those will be my work horses. If the 50-135 can do some sports, then great. If its too short, then oh well. I picked up the 80-320 f/4.5-5.6 to do some sports stuff in good lighting. I know it's too slow for night games, but that's fine. It was worth $80. I also have the Rokinon 8mm for fun fisheye stuff. So, I've got all my bases covered. If the day comes that I want to get more serious about sports photography, I'll just get the sigma 300. Again, I apologize to everyone who's read this thread. I was ranting over something that didn't even matter. I like this forum A LOT. The last thing I want to do is be known as the bad egg. That's not me. I'm here to learn as much as I can, and socialize with all of you fellow pentaxians. I hope this clears things up. Thanks.

pentax 80-320 vs Pentax 100-300

Im looking to buy a cheap, older AF lens for little league football/baseball games. I dont intend to use this in low light situation, as i already know neither of them will work very well. Im just wanting to use this in broad day light, when lighting and ISO wont be an issue. I looked up the reviews on this site for both lenses. It just made my decision that much more difficult. The 80-320 has slightly longer reach, and its faster (5.6 vs. 5.8). The ratings show it being slightly sharper. But the overall rating is lower than the 100-300. So im completely lost. I just want something cheap, with good reach, and I can get sharp shots. The photo samples for both look really good. Im just wondering if anyone out there has experience with either lens and can make a recommendation. thank you .
